Yasiin Bey Talks Trump, Return to Music and Film

Wednesday, August 30th, 2017

Yasiin Bey stopped by Hot 97 for an honest, enlightening and at times hilarious discussion with Ebro and Laura Stylez. Over the course of an hour, they talk Mayweather vs. Mcgregor, his legal issues in South Africa, the exploitation of the African continent at large, the importance of seeing the world with your own eyes and the lack of leadership in the Trump era and how crazy the United States is looking in the eyes of the rest of the world.

He also goes deep into why he has fallen back from acting and music over the past several years, critiques the artists of today and the deals they are signing and speaks to whether or not we’ll see him returning to the game anytime soon. Finally, he speaks on Colin Kaepernick and the hypocrisy on his inability to find a job and the national conflict over Confederate flags, statues and history.

Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

This past weekend in Miami, Yasiin Bey announced that he has two new albums on deck that he will be premiering during his upcoming performance at The Apollo Theater on December 21st. Speaking with Miss Info on Public School NYC’s WNL Radio broadcast, Bey revealed the impending release of As Promised, his long-awaited collaboration with Mannie Fresh, plus another new project called Negus in Natural Person.

These are both in addition to the Dec 99th project with Ferrari Sheppard which will arrive this Friday on TIDAL. Additionally, Bey treated the crowd at the ‘In Appreciation Of Lyricism’ event presented by Boiler Room and Saul Williams to live performances of some new tracks. The joint he does in the clip above sounds especially ridiculous. Below, watch footage of him performing a politically charged new song called “No Time To Pretend”. The audio on both is excellent.
