Wu-Tang Clan – SAVOR-WAVS (Remix)

Wednesday, July 19th, 2017

Cilantro Rules Everything Around Me. The RZA has been tapped by international burrito cartel Chipotle for their new SAVOR-WAVS musical campaign. The gist is that the company and the legendary Wu producer have translated each of the chain’s 51 all-natural ingredients into 51 unique musical sounds and visualizations, then brought in a selection of artists to create music utilizing the audio.

For his contribution, RZA recruited Method Man, Raekwon and Ghostface for this new track just released today. I pressed play on this expecting some corny Tex-Mex-themed bars, but this is still Wu we’re talking about here and these verses are actually pretty tight. Listen below and head over to this site to play around with the SAVOR-WAVS technology and create an audio translation of your burrito order.

Method Man, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and RZA come together on “Don’t Stop” a new cut from the Silicon Valley season 3 soundtrack which will be out tonight/tomorrow on Mass Appeal Records. The track has a 2017 feel but is still tinged with 90’s era nostalgia such as Kung-Fu flick vocal samples and a few lyrical call-backs to “C.R.E.A.M” sprinkled throughout.

RZA Responds to Martin Shkreli

Wednesday, January 6th, 2016

In a sit-down with Bloomberg Businessweek, the site that originally identified disgraced pharma CEO and would-be Bobby Shmurda savior Martin Shkreli as the buyer of that one-off Wu-Tang album, RZA responds to some of Shkreli’s remarks about him. After Shkreli’s identity as the buyer was revealed, RZA put out a statement distancing himself and Wu-Tang from the notorious Brooklyn native. The controversial executive, who has since been ousted as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, in turn made some pretty greasy comments, warning RZA that he should be careful about what he says and calling him “arrogant.”

“That’s a little hostile. What could backfire from creating a piece of art, having an idea and seeing it grow into fruition. As far as me being arrogant? It depends on what day you catch me, I can be arrogant.”

He goes on to say that he’s not mad that Shkreli is now the sole owner of the controversial album and calls upon him to let the world hear Once Upon A Time in Shaolin.

UPDATED below with the full video of RZA’s interview, during which he also discussed Obama, Black Lives Matter, Hilary Clinton, Donald Trump and more.

Listen to a Preview of the New Wu-Tang Album

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

Zach O’Malley Greenburg be out in Marrakesh smoking hashish with his fellowship. The Forbes writer recently traveled to Morocco to meet with producer Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh about the much discussed single copy Wu-Tang album Once Upon A Time in Shaolin. During the meeting, Cilvaringz gave him a quick 51 second preview of a track featuring Ghostface Killah and somebody who sounds an awful lot like Cher.

UPDATED: Rolling Stone confirms that it is in fact Cher.

A representative for Cher declined to make the singer available for comment, but confirmed the collaboration to Rolling Stone. “She recorded her parts separately, so I don’t believe there was direct interaction,” said the rep.

RZA Says He Got a $5 Million Offer for That Wu-Tang Album

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014

During a new interview with Billboard, RZA claims that they’ve already received separate offers of $2 million and $5 million for that single copy Wu-Tang album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin that they announced last week.

He tells them:

“Offers came in at $2 million, somebody offered $5 million yesterday,” he said via phone from Los Angeles Tuesday, during a break from promotion work on “Brick Mansions,” his forthcoming film with the late Paul Walker, and “Gang Related,” his Fox show launching next month. “I’ve been getting a lot of emails — some from people I know, some from people I don’t know, and they’re also emailing other members of my organization.”

“So far, $5 million is the biggest number,” he continued. “I don’t know how to measure it, but it gives us an idea that what we’re doing is being understood by some. And there are some good peers of mine also, who are very high-ranking in the film business and the music business, sending me a lot of good will. It’s been real positive.”

So if that’s true, they’ve gotta take that offer right? I can’t imagine that anybody would be willing to pay more than that. It’s one thing to send “good will”, it’s another thing entirely to wire $5 million for a CD.

Wu-Tang to Release 1 High Priced Copy of New LP

Wednesday, March 26th, 2014

Well now, there are all sorts of new rules being written this week. Forbes today broke the news that Wu-Tang will only release 1 single solitary copy of their next project, The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. So how eactly is that going to work you ask? Well the only existing copy of the LP will live in a custom engraved, silver and nickel display box (see above) made by British-Moroccan artist Yahya. The Clan will not release the album to the public through traditional channels, but instead hope to put the piece on exhibit at museums, art galleries and music festivals for fans to view and hear (for a fee, of course).
