Ugly Heroes (Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent & Red Pill) – Hero’s Theme

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

The Ugly Heroes project from producer Apollo Brown and MCs Verbal Kent and Red Pill is available for purchase on iTunes today. Here’s a free download of the track “Hero’s Theme”.

The origins of Ugly Heores stems from Apollo Brown wanting to do a heavy blue collar album that paints a real picture of life out there. Not a gangsta record. Not a hipster record. A record that paints life as it is today for a lot of the working poor. And as much as we all want to act like we aren’t the working poor – truth is, most of us are living check to check with moments of glory intersparsed with notices from electric companies that the disconnect is pending. Emcees Red Pill (Detroit) and Verbal Kent (Chicago) lay some of the rawest slice of life narratives in the game today over 15 tracks produced by Apollo Brown. Think soul drenched beats with moody horns and heavy drums. We all listen to these rags to riches stories most people sell us, but this is that rags and still hoping story…

Ugly Heroes (Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent & Red Pill) – Graves

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

I’m happy to present “Graves”, the first single from Ugly Heroes, a trio consisting of lyricists Verbal Kent and Red Pill with producer Apollo Brown handling production.

An Ugly Hero is considered a myth. Growing up, the heroes we saw in cartoons and movies were perfectly chiseled, intelligent, and had senses none of us possess. An UGLY HERO is the everyday blue collar individual that makes the world go ’round. These are the heroes that work hard all day, everyday to help ensure that the lives around them are taken care of, and do it all without recognition. They wear themselves into the ground and sacrifice vanity for family.

The Ugly Heroes self-titled debut LP drops on May 28th, pre-order here.

Verbal Kent ft. Ill Bill & Wordsworth – Remove The Gag

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I’m only somewhat familiar with Verbal Kent, but I’ve heard good things and I know Bill and Words bring the spit.

This is off Verbal and & Kaz One’s upcoming album, Brave New Rap, due out April 1.

The album features production entirely from Kaz One, with guest appearances by La Coka Nostra Leader Ill Bill, Emc’s Wordsworth, Braille, and Coldhard of the legendary Crucial Conflict. Track after track, Verbal and Kaz team up on what many hip-hop connoisseurs are terming to be “the return of real tag-team rap”.
