Premiere: The Narcicyst – Free + World War

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

Montreal’s The Narcicyst will be releasing his new album World War Free Now on May 26th and the iTunes pre-order link went live today with a few tracks available for download. “Free” features Ian Kamau and was produced by Sandhill and “World War” was produced by Thanks Joey.

I heard the full album at an advance listener accompanied by a visual component in a movie theatre setting a few weeks ago and the whole production was really solid. The project was mastered in association with Landr which is a Montreal start-up that allows you to drag-and-drop files to master tracks, my friend who studied sound engineering actually used the service to master his project a few months ago and co-signs them.

Freeway, Amir Sulaiman, Ayah, The Narcicyst & Omar Offendum – #Jan25th

Monday, February 7th, 2011

As I’m sure you know, it’s been going down in Egypt for the past couple of weeks. On #Jan25th (named for the date the protests began), MC’s Freeway, The Narcicyst and Omar Offendum, as well as Def Poet Amir Sulaiman and singer Ayah, offer their own thoughts and reflections on a situation that is touching people of many different faiths and nationalities on many different levels.

Inspired by the resilience of Egyptian people during their recent uprising, several notable musicians from North America have teamed up to release a song of solidarity and empowerment. The track is fittingly titled “#Jan25″ as a reference to both the date the protests officially began in Egypt, and its prominence as a trending topic on Twitter. Produced by Sami Matar, a Palestinian-American composer from Southern California, and featuring the likes of Freeway, The Narcicyst, Omar Offendum, HBO Def Poet Amir Sulaiman, and Canadian R&B vocalist Ayah – this track serves as a testament to the revolution’s effect on the hearts and minds of today’s youth, and the spirit of resistance it has come to symbolize for oppressed people worldwide.

Video: The Narcicyst ft. Shadia Mansour – Hamdulillah

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

This is a really beautiful video and a great song by The Narcicyst, an artist from Montreal by way of Basra, Iraq. This type of visual is especially powerful during this time when radical Islamaphobes and scumbucket conservative politicians are are on TV spewing their bigoted rhetoric and trying to tell us where a house of worship can and can’t be located. That’s exactly the kind of nonsense that makes me ashamed to claim this country as my birthplace sometimes.

Shout to Amir for sending this over
