This is a gem courtesy of Alex at RubyHornet:

Mos Def is one my true inspirations and to celebrate the release of his new LP, we’re doing different things all week. Today I posted some very vintage Mos Def that I happened upon at Dr. Wax on the southside of Chicago more than a decade ago. It’s definitely something for the Mos Def fan.

Video: More Mos Def A Cappellas On The Streets of Osaka (The Embassy + Auditorium)

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Current TV makes some great fucking segments.

Mos Def made his way across Japan in March with two Current Music producers in tow. In the streets of Osaka, he busted out an a capella version of “Embassy,” another song off his much anticipated album, The Ecstatic, out June 9 from Downtown Records.

Everyone who I’ve spoken to about the album has  only had good things to say about it, and I just got confirmation that the album did not get pushed back and is still dropping on June 9th, next Tuesday, contrary to yesterday’s reports. Amazon will have the MP3 version starting on June 8th. Mos is on 106 & Park (lol) tomorrow, Letterman on Tuesday and Fallon on Tuesday (I hope to fuck they do Rising Down).

Mos Def – Casa Bey

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Don’t know why they‘re calling the album “Casa Bey” now, but here’s the latest leak off The Ecstatic which drops on June 6th.

Mos Def – Casa Bey: a song based on a sample of Banda Black Rio’s “Casa Forte” with Mos doing his mile-a-minute word dance over top. The story behind the beat has it that on a recent trip to South America, Mos linked up with well-known Brazilian rapper MV Bill, who gave him a tape with “Casa Forte” on it. Bowled over by the track, when Mos came home, he turned to DJ Preservation and Dante Smith to (barely) cut it up into a beat, forming the instrumental.
