Rapper/producer/singer Young Troy’s new EP is out today. It features his usual rhyming partner B.Cliff and production from Soulection’s Da-P.

It’s also available everywhere else to stream or purchase.

Premiere: OG Maco – U Guessed It (Da-P Remix)

Wednesday, November 5th, 2014

I’ve mentioned producer/DJ Da-P in the past, but never in a post of his own. The uber-talented Montreal upstart and Soulection affiliate is back remixing the widely popular OG Maco hit after having some success earlier this year with his “Move That Dope” remix (off his project entitled Havok Highway, embedded below) and another joint I included under it called “From The Rooftop – Sniper’s Theme”. Him & the homie High Klassified also co-produced the title track of Mick Jenkins’ The Water[s].

Stream the full Havok Highway project after the jump.

High Klassified – Hyrule Kastle

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

After its initial release a few months ago, I’ve seen music geeks and blogs alike showing love to High Klassified’s Palindroma project (mainly “Outro”, which has basically become a staple in the nightlife here, embedded below). The Low Pros (A-Trak x Lex Luger) collaborator has been popping up at shows & festivals all over the place since. This kid and his homie Da-P (of Soulection) are about to blow up in the instrumental game.

Cop Palindroma (out on A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold Records imprint) on iTunes here and follow him on Instagram, he’s got a pretty interesting sense of humor layered with in-studio sessions and snippets of unfinished beats.

IAMNOBODI – Some Old Beats… (Radio Jakarta 002)

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

IAMNOBODI is a producer hailing from Berlin who is also part of the almighty Soulection crew. Some Old Beats…, as the name probably gives away, is a 23 minute mix comprised of 11 unreleased beats from 2010-2012 and is the second instalment of the radio/mix series by German record label Jakarta Records (Blitz The Ambassador, Kaytranada, Ta-Ku, JR&PH7, Mc Melodee & Cookin Soul) which is great.

Below is “Inspiration / Motivation” which is a beat he cooked up two days ago.

Check out the mix’s track list after the jump, along with a stream of a new song he released with JMSN last week called “Reaction”.

Sango – Pôr Do Sol Parte 2

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

Sango is part of a crop of producers that I’ve been listening to for the better part of the last year or so that I’ve been disinterested with rap as a whole. He’s down with the Soulection crew and is a key figure in the “remix” movement that’s been taking place on Soundcloud and various music blogs. They’ve been doing just fine without the adoration of (most) rap blogs, boasting a very loyal, healthy and organic following on social media (i.e. how it’s supposed to be done).

This song is an unreleased bonus track from his last beat tape Da Rocinha 2 which you can stream on his Bandcamp and was released to plug his limited-edition vinyl, out on Jakarta Records, that is now sold out. I particularly enjoyed his edit of Nothing Was The Same‘s “From Time” w/ Atu, that my wifey Jhene showed love to as well:

His last mix “Just A Kid From Seattle” got a lot of fanfare and praise so I included it below:
