Watch J. Cole’s Full Interview with Ryan Coogler

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

This past Monday (January 18), J. Cole sat down with Creed director Ryan Coogler for an artist interview at a #MLKNow event in honor of the Civil Rights leader’s legacy at Riverside Church in Harlem. The big headline to come out of the Q&A was that about halfway through (11:54), Coogler suddenly revealed that Cole is in fact married to his High School sweetheart Melissa Heholt by way of a question about how married life has changed him.

This was news to pretty much everybody, but Cole’s nuptials weren’t the only thing they discussed that afternoon. The good folks at Montreality have isolated the 21 minute interview from the archive of the event’s live stream and you can check it out above. Among other things, they talked about how Coogler’s Oscar Grant film Fruitvale Station affected Cole, police brutality and the myth of Black on Black violence.
