Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

The Summer festival season is just about upon us and we now have a complete lineup for the annual Rock The Bells concert series. In addition to the already stellar lineup (see below), it has been announced that the crowd will be treated to performances by holograms of Eazy-E and Ol Dirty Bastard, presumably using the same technology that brought 2Pac to life at Coachella last year.

Ticket and venue information is available at the Rock The Bells site.

Video: Mos Def Explains Plans for Name Change

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Mos Def tells Peter Rosenberg at Rock The Bells that he intends on changing his stage-name to Yasiin at the end of the year. If his explanation as to why doesn’t make sense, I remember reading somewhere that he had already changed his real name to that.

Video: Common on The Making of Be

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Lonnie talks about the inception of his album Be, “The Food” being the first track he made with Kanye, how the beat for “The Corner” was made in 30 mins. and what it was like living with Jay Dee in L.A.

In 2005, Common released his sixth studio album, and second gold record, Be. In describing the album’s concept shortly after its release, he said, “I named it Be to be who you are, man, and be able to be in the moment and not try too hard. Be is another way of saying just do without trying hard, like I said, natural and be true to the core of who you are; and this album, I wanted to just be and not just go and exist as just an artist, not worried about the past.”

Common is performing the LP on select Rock the Bells tour dates, the next one being in Boston on September 10th.

Rock The Bells 2011 Lineup

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Yeah, so this looks like it’s going to be ridiculous. Let me get this straight, Nas is bringing AZ, Pete Rock and Preemo? Woah. It’s nice to see Roc Marciano on the bill. Ms. Hill, Black Star, Ghost & Rae, Mobb Deep and Random Axe alone are worth two times the price of admission. Never mind Black Moon and Slaughterhouse. Although the press release does note that certain performers will only be playing select dates. Either way, I don’t see how you can go wrong with even half of these acts.  RTB 2011 will hit the following four cities on the following dates:

08.20 San Bernardino, CA – San Manuel Amphitheater

08.27 Mountain View, CA – Shoreline Amphitheatre

09.03 New York, NY – Governor’s Island

09.10 Boston, MA

There will be a ticket pre-sale on June 3 from 10 am PST to 10 pm PST, with general sales starting the following day.

Click through to the Rock The Bells site for more info.

UPDATE: Mobb Deep to perform The Infamous in its entirety, Havoc says Mobb Deep and Nas album is in the works.
