Prince Passes Away at 57

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

Prince, legendary performer and musical genius, has passed away at age 57. Authorities in Minnesota confirmed earlier today that they had been called to the artist’s famous Paisley Park Studios complex to investigate a fatality, but have only just confirmed that it was in fact Prince who had passed. The singer was hospitalized on April 15th after his private jet made an emergency landing due to an unspecified medical emergency. A couple of days later he appeared at Paisely Park to reassure fans that he was ok. Prince’s influence on popular music and Hip-Hop specifically can not be understated, and as I’m sure my fellow children of the 80’s can attest, this is an especially tragic loss.

Kendrick Lamar & Prince Perform Collaboration

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

UPDATED: This video had disappeared from the web, but a much fresher HD clip has just resurfaced via The Prince Museum. (5/3/16)

Prince just dropped two new albums, Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum, and the living legend celebrated the release of the two projects with an event in Minneapolis that was live streamed via Yahoo! Kendrick Lamar appeared as a surprise guest and performed the verse you hear above as an addition to the track “Whats’ My Name”, which appeared on the 1998 album Crystal Ball. Here’s to hoping we get to hear the full studio version of this “remix” soon.

The Foreign Exchange & ?uestlove Give Prince the Flowers While He Can Still Smell ‘Em

Friday, July 10th, 2009

It’s funny because the day that we lost Michael, I was on my way to Pennsylvania with the fam for a little rest and relaxation. Obviously, with the kids in the car, I can’t bump any bang-bang-shoot-em-up-nigga-die-slow type of shit (or any Drake), so one of the albums I was listening to was one of the Prince greatest hits joints. The kids weren’t really ready for it, so I threw on some MJ thinking it’d be more their speed, and it was. A couple hours later I learned that we’d lost the King. As we’ve seen time and time again, great men and women are often taken before their time. With that in mind, ?uesto recently linked with Phonte, Nicolay, Zo! and Carlitta Durand for this tribute to The Kid with a flip of “Take Me With You”. Now let’s just hope he doesn’t C&D them.

Video: Lil Wayne Would Love To Be Prince In Purple Rain

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Here’s some information on Wayne’s new movie with Forest Whitaker:

Lil Wayne got a huge laugh out of watching Forest Whitaker perform “Di– in a Box” during last week’s MTV Movie Awards. That’s definitely a moment he didn’t expect form his “Hurricane Season” co-star.

“I just finished shooting a movie with Forest too. He’s a very serious guy,” Wayne said after the show in Universal City, California. “I just spoke to him before he went out there, and he was like, ‘You did good in the movie.’ Then he goes out there and sings that. I’m like, ‘Wow.’ ”

Hurricane Season comes out later this year. The movie centers on a high school basketball team in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. “Everything was wonderful, and just doing it in New Orleans, it being a true story, and just contributing in any kind of way, it was great for me.”
