MICK – Greetings Earthling: Outkast Rarities & Remixes (Mixtape)

Saturday, April 12th, 2014

Our good friend MICK (formerly Mick Boogie) apparently got inspired to do this mixtape after he saw the “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” remix by Diamond D in our “Top 20 Remixes of 1994” feature so he let us drop this. Shouts to him. NAHRIGHT premiere.

A message from MICK:

Greetings Earthling: Outkast, hands down, is one of my favorite groups of all time – in any genre of music. Their music set trends, defined a generation, and created a mood unlike any other. In honor of their Coachella reunion, I put together a fun mix of Big Boi and Andre 3000 rarities, demos, collaborations and remixes. If you’re a MICK (or Mick Boogie – remember him?) fan, you’ll find this similar to the retrospectives I did for A Tribe Called Quest and the Beastie Boys. If you’re looking for Outkast’s greatest hits or stuff from their albums, you’re out of luck. Go to iTunes and buy those right now. If you’re a true fan and looking to dig a little bit deeper and really enter the world of the Dungeon Family – this is made for you. And it’s hella long – maybe TOO long – almost two hours! Lastly, check out the special painted original cover we created – made by Deftone of Jolly Awesome. Take me to your leader…

Track list & download link after the jump.

Revolt caught up with Big Boi during All-Star Weekend and he crushed any notions we may have had about a new Outkast full length. Instead, we’re getting a Game of Thrones inspired solo mixtape. Go on and marinate on that.

Report: Big Boi & Andre 3000 Planning Solo Albums

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

So we have an Outkast tour confirmed. That’s already in the works. But what about a new ‘Kast album? Well, Revolt spoke to longtime Outkast collaborator Mr. DJ and he says that Andre and Big have been putting in a bunch of work at Stankonia Studios lately and he believes that they plan on dropping solo efforts prior to any joint ‘Kast album:

He’s not certain, but—brace yourself—he believes 3000 will drop his long-awaited solo album this year. BET’s Stephen Hill hinted at the idea last summer, when he tweeted out that Dre mentioned dropping a new album at the top of 2014. While it may not be coming that soon, a lot of material has been recorded for it, Mr. DJ notes.

Big Boi, meanwhile, also has a fair amount of material recorded for his own solo project, and Mr. DJ was in Stankonia with him just last week laying tracks down for it. The bigger plan at hand, it seems, is for both MCs to go on their 40-date festival run, drop solo projects, and then get back in the studio for a group project. Going on tour, Mr. DJ says, should help rekindle their creative relationship.

Emphasis mine. Read Revolt’s full report here.

UPDATE: Big Boi confirms that he’s dropping a solo album:
