Thursday, November 20th, 2014

The OG No I.D. sits down with Rosenberg and Quartermaine for a special edition of Juan Epstein.

Says Rosenberg:

Ok this is a really special podcast. For starters, No I.D. is an amazing interview and his story is incredibly inspirational. Also Ciph was called into some Hot Mixer’s meeting and my old cohost and dear friend Quartermaine happened to be visiting so he jumped in for Ciph. No I.D. goes through who his entire career, discusses the ups and downs with Common, and breaks down his incredible history with Kanye. ENJOY!

Common Dropping New Album on Def Jam

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

Common has officially announced that his new album, Nobody’s Smiling, will be released on July 22nd through Def Jam and No I.D.’s Artium imprint. No I.D., who was appointed Senior VP and Co-head of A&R up at Def Jam back in 2011, will also serve as Executive Producer on the album.

Common offered the following statement in a press release announcing the deal:

“I’m honored to team up with No I.D. and be a part of the Artium and Def Jam family. ‎ Creating this album and signing to Def Jam feels like a new beginning for me. I feel like a new artist because I created this album with the purpose to give back to my city and to the culture of hip hop. Def Jam is part of the foundation of hip hop and being able to work with No I.D. was returning to my foundation now with new energy and new hunger.”

The title Nobody’s Smiling was inspired by the ongoing epidemic of violence on the streets of Chicago.

Common releases the first single “War” off his forthcoming No I.D.-produced album, Nobody Smiling, which he detailed on RevoltTV earlier today:

I feel excited about the project I’m working on. It’s called Nobody Smiling. It’s an album; originally I was making it an EP, but we’ve just been making a lot of songs, myself and No I.D. We came up with this concept—Nobody Smiling was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago, or that is going on… It happens in Chicago, but it’s going on around the world in many ways, in inner cities all over America. We were talking about the conditions of what was happening when I said Nobody Smiling, but it’s really a call to action.

Video: Rare Kanye West Interview From 2002

Monday, November 4th, 2013

Incredible hour-long interview with MTV’s “You Heard It First” that has never seen the light of day until now, subjects ranging from everything from meeting No I.D. in Chicago, early Roc-A-Fella days and predictions for the future that were pretty much all accurate. I’m guessing this never aired because this is almost exactly the same thing as “Last Call” from College Dropout, but more detailed.

I also realized I had never heard the full story about how he met Mos Def and Kweli. The story about Jay-Z coming up with “H to the Izzo” and him running into the bathroom to call his mom is CLASSIC.
