Nas: Live from the Kennedy Center (Documentary Trailer)

From the pissy hallways of QB to the Kennedy Center, Nasir Jones is the subject of the new documentary Live from the Kennedy Center: Classical Hip-Hop from Mass Appeal and PBS. The film chronicles Nas’ live performance of the Illmatic album with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C last year. Check out some preview footage above and look for the full doc to air February 2nd at 9:00 p.m. on PBS.

Nas Wanted to Change the Vocabulary of Hip-Hop

In the latest animated short from Foot Locker and Timberland for the footwear company’s Legend’s Club series, Nas explains how in an effort to raise the lyrical bar of the raps he was writing at the time, he would read the dictionary front to back and absorb new words to weave into his verses. This clip is in support of the latest Legend’s Club release: the Vol. VIII Black Strap Boot, which has been available since last month.

In this new installment of Mass Appeal’s ‘Off The Record’ series, we hear briefly from DJ Premier about the Illmatic sessions with Nas that produced “NY State of Mind” and “Memory Lane (Sittin In The Park).” Preemo talks about discovering the Joe Chambers and Reuben Wilson samples, having to be talked into looping the “Memory Lane” melody and how the track ended up with its two part title.

In this new animated short from Timberland and Foot Locker, Nas recalls cultivating a love for the power of Jazz on the strength of his father Olu Dara’s career as a musician and trumpeter. This is for the new campaign to promote Timberland’s Vol. VII FlyRoam sneaker boot, part of their Legends Collection, available at Footlocker on September 30th.

Here’s a new trailer for Biggie: The Life of the Notorious B.I.G., a new documentary on the GOAT airing on A&E September 4th. This new clip features commentary from Jay-Z and Nas and is also accompanied by another promo (see below) that includes Diddy and Lil Cease. A&E had previously teased several previously unheard excerpts from an interview Big sat for with Cheo Coker back in 1997.

Video: DJ Khaled ft. Nas & Travis Scott – It’s Secured

This Nas and Travis Scott collaboration from Khaled’s new album Grateful hasn’t exactly emerged as a fan favorite. In fact, it’s been widely panned as one of the bigger creative missteps on the album. Nonetheless, “It’s Secured” is the latest single to get a visual from the project. Watch above.

Watch Nas & Jack White Perform “One Mic”

Last week, PBS aired the American Epic Sessions concert special which featured a number artists including Elton John, Alabama Shakes and Raphael Saadiq performing vintage and original tracks utilizing recording equipment and instruments from the 1920’s. Last month we got to see Nas and Jack White’s performance of a 1928 Blues song called “On The Road Again” by Memphis Jug Band, but here’s a nice bonus clip. Watch above as Nas, Jack and the accompanying band do a truly unique rendition of “One Mic” using the same primitive technology.
