Live From The Streets with Sean Price

Friday, July 21st, 2017

Not long before his passing in August of 2015, Sean Price linked with Mr. Green to shoot an episode of the producer’s fantastic Live From The Streets series. If you are unfamiliar with the show, Green would head out into the streets of different cities around the world where he would collect audio samples from street musicians, regular people he encountered and the environment. He would then pull those disparate sounds together to create a beat and have an MC come in to lay down bars over the final product.

A number of notable rappers have participated in the series including Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, A$AP Ferg, KRS-One, Waka Flocka and Deniro Farrar, among others. But if you remember this video that dropped when Sean was preparing for the release of Songs In The Key of Price, you’ll recall released to the public and as it turns out, it represents of one of Sean’s very last interviews before his passing.

In this latest episode of Mr. Green’s Live From the Streets, he travels to Toronto to link with Rich Kidd and Tre Mission.

Green explains:

“For this episode we went out to Toronto Canada for their annual busker fest. Toronto is a nice city, the streets are clean and people are friendly but we saw a few street fights while we were there too.

First we headed to Yonge street to check out the festival. There were crazy sounds everywhere so it was tough to choose but we started with a guy named David who was playing an instrument he invented called the Tree-otica as well a guy named Mario dressed up like a tree while playing a saw. After that we filmed the violin band deVah Quartet and some fire performances. Next, we went over to Kensington market to film Khari Wendell Mcclelland while he was on a break from tour. Finally, we met up with Rich Kidd and Tre Missions and got them to spit verses for us.”

Waka Flocka and The BX’s own Black Dave join Mr. Green for the latest episode of “Live From the Streets”. After linking with Dave to record some skateboard sounds and Warriors type bottle clinks, he grabs some ad-libs and a verse from Waka and puts it all together. Then Dave contributes a full verse to make the cypher complete. Green really did a great job on that beat.

Mr. Green samples a Canadian saw player and grabs a chorus from KRS-One on this latest episode of Live From The Streets. He connected with the Rap icon through his boy Hakim Green of Channel Live, who also spits a verse on the track.

Mr. Green explains:

Basically, Hakim was organizing a few events to help mayor Ras Baraka get elected in Newark and he had KRS come to town to help spread the word and inspire people. Aubrey knew I was looking for guests for the new season so he asked if Sam and I could cover the events and put Hakim and KRS on the show. I was down. To me this is a perfect episode because I got to work with one of my favorite artists of all time and because I got to help out a good dude like Hakim.

Be sure to check out the other recent episodes of “LFTS” featuring Deniro Farrar and A$AP Ferg.

For the latest installment of Mr. Green’s “Live From The Streets” series, in which he samples sounds from the environment and uses them to create a completely unique instrumental, he hooks up with Trap God A$AP Ferg. After grabbing some snips from a street performer in Chinatown playing an erhu, plus some bike sounds from BMX star Nigel Sylvester, Green makes an honest to goodness trap banger for Ferg to spit over. The result is one of the illest tracks I’ve ever heard produced on “Live From The Streets”.

Mr. Green kicks off another season of his “Live From The Streets” series in which he creates beats from the sounds of whatever location he might find himself in and the people he meets there, then lets an MC have his way with the results. In this first new episode, he hooks up with a bottle collector named Felipe to make a beat for Deniro Farrar.

Says Green:

“This time I got sounds from a good dude named Felipe that walks around the neighborhood collecting cans and cleaning the streets. Sam (our producer) found him one day, he’s always singing while he works so we thought we could make him the center of the episode. While he was working he took us around and I grabbed a bunch of sounds of cans crashing together, whistling and singing. Felipe also told us about his dedication and passion for helping the environment. After I finished the instrumental we met up with the newest artist to sign to VICE, Deniro Farrar, and he did a dope verse. We were really inspired by Felipe and his message so we made a shirt that you can buy here: http://store.livefromthestreets.com/. 100% of proceeds will go to him.

The new season should be pretty interesting as Green will be joined by the likes of A$AP Ferg, KRS-One and Waka Flocka. Check out the Season 3 trailer below.
