Mick Luter ft. Tree – Desert Eagle

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

Chicago’s Mick Luter has been taking it light for the last couple of years. With the exception of an appearance on BAU’s The Good Book compilation and some features here and there, he’s been mostly quiet since 2012. This week he resurfaces with a new joint called “Desert Eagle” featuring the esteemed Tree. Look out for his new project, Mansa Luter, to drop later this year.

DJ RTC & Friends Live at Do Division Fest (Mixtape)

Friday, June 12th, 2009

As promised earlier, here is the full recording of performances, courtesy of RH:

On May 30, 2009 DJ RTC set up shop at Do Division Fest, an annual music and arts festival stretching roughly 9 city blocks in the heart of Division street. He asked some of Chicago’s finest emcees to join him during his set. So many artists signed up that it turned into an exclusively Chicago set, which played out like a live mixtape. DJ RTC arranged and blended
tracks together to make for smooth transitions, and a concert with few pauses and lots of excitement. Michael Kolar of Sou ndScape Studio recorded and mastered the full set, which is available for free download by clicking the link below. With ten of Chicago’s most accomplished and beloved Hip Hop artists making appearances, DJ RTC & Friends Live is a one of its kind live concert mixtape, which represents everything that’s dope right now about Chicago’s Hip Hop community. Notorious as a city full of haters, DJ RTC & Friends serves to contradict the Chi’s haterville moniker and signifies the change in the attitude taking place in the Chi. Artists such as Mike 100’s, Really Doe, Phil G, Project Mayhem, Mikkey Halsted, Mick Luter, Mic Terror, Rhymefest, The Primeridian, and GLC all been lead the pack.

If you were there, you can relive the experiene. If you missed it, you can get caught up to speed. Please enjoy by finding the download link and tracklist below.

Mikkey Halsted & Mick Luter – I’m A Ryder (Live)

Friday, June 12th, 2009

DJ RTC just dropped this off:

We first heard “I’m A Ryder” last summer, during a visit to The Attic with Mikkey Halsted. The track was always said to actually be a Mick Luter song, but Mick was taking his sweet time on putting down his 16. Well, at the RH sponsored DJ RTC & Friends Mikkey and Mick performed the completed version live for the first time. I also believe this is the first recording of the track that people will hear. Mikkey now raps second, and his verse is also different. Check out the live cut below, and the full DJ RTC & Friends at Do Division Fest is dropping later today featuring my live DJ set with performances by Mike 100’s, Really Doe, Phil G, Project Mayhem, Mikkey Halsted, Mic Terror, Primeridian, Rhymefest, and GLC…Stay tuned! Hear the original here.

Naledge feat. Rus Soul – Star Struck

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Naledge will be dropping the Chicago Picasso mix CD (Hosted by Mick Boogie, RTC & DJ Timbuck2) on June 30th via Duck Down Records. It’ll will feature appearances by Bun B, Chip Tha Ripper, Jay Electronica, Mickey Factz, Mick Luter, Rhymefest, Carlita Durand, Curren$y, J Ivy, Russoul, Doe Boy, GLC & Fooch and production by Double-O, Tha Bizness, Picnic Tyme, Sa Ra Creative Partners, FDNY, Xcel, Analogic, Black Spade, SC, MStacks, Nez & Rio.

I wanted to show all aspects of Chicago, not just one sound. For a long time we’ve seen a specific side of Chicago Rap, but this mix cd provides new perspective.
The point of the mixtape was to open the vault and let the fans in on the wealth of solo material that I have recorded. I look at this mixtape more as a collection of art that I have made over time. Each song is its own original statement and with the help of Timbuck2 and RTC we have made the thoughts behind each of the songs more cohesive.
I have worked with some of the most creative people in my city, many of which I have known since childhood and that made this project all that more personal. That includes visual artists, poets, singers and emcees. People included in this proect who aren’t from Chicago were either from my time living in St. Louis, or they were people I met recording Kidz In The Hall’s “In Crowd” in New York City.
I wouldn’t call this a mixtape so much as an exhibit…hence the name Chicago Picasso. The same way Pablo Picasso created a commissioned statue that has sat downtown in Chicago for years of interpretation; I want this mixtape to float the same way.
