Kool Herc on The Combat Jack Show

Tuesday, April 7th, 2015

kool-herc

The man, the myth, the oracle of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, Kool Herc, is the latest guest on The Combat Jack Show.

The father of Hip Hop Kool Herc gives us a very rare interview documenting the birth of Hip Hop, how he ran the game throughout the 1970’s, how his man Coke La Rock was the very first rap emcee, the records he discovered, how he almost died for this culture, his battle with drugs, health issues and his top five emcees and deejays. This one is for the history books. We do this for the culture!

Kool Herc Needs Your Help

Monday, January 31st, 2011

During his Live From HeadQuarterz show on Sirius radio this past weekend, DJ Premier revealed that DJ Kool Herc, widely regarded as one of the Founding Fathers of Hip-Hop, has been plagued with an unspecified health issue and is in dire need of financial assistance. Although exact details of Herc’s illness have yet to be revealed, (though they really aren’t our business anyway), I think it’s unfortunate that one of the guys directly responsible for bringing so much joy and prosperity to others has to find himself in such a situation in this day and age. I think it’s important, especially for people who work in the music industry, or eat in one way or another from this culture, to take a few minutes and donate whatever you can to Herc’s medical fund. Here’s to hoping for a full recovery and many more years of health.
