On Friday night at The Forum in LA, Kanye debuted his new video for “Famous,” the lead single from The Life of Pablo. This is video is something else. It is heavily inspired by artist Vincent Desiderio’s “Sleep,” and it features Kanye and Kim naked in bed and surrounded by a number of wax figure doppelgangers of nude celebrities including Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, Amber Rose, Ray J, Caitlyn enner, Anna Wintour. Rihanna and Chris Brown.

Kanye Covers GQ’s August Issue

Friday, July 18th, 2014

Donda’s baby boy covers the August issue of GQ.

UPDATED: The cover story is available online now. In it, Ye talks about his next album and the lead single, which will be called “All Day” and could be dropping as early as September.

What does that mean in terms of putting the new record together? Do you want the pendulum to swing back and do something more pop, like Twisted Fantasy or Graduation?
I think just my usual pattern is like that. It’s like a pendulum. The pendulum gains momentum by swinging in the other direction. Even lyrically, I think about certain lines that I say on my new single, which is called “All Day,” that usually Jay would say, but Jay’s not on there. So I say, All day, nigga, it’s Ye, nigga. Shopping for the winter, it’s just May, nigga. Ball so hard, man, this shit cray, nigga. You ain’t getting money unless you got eight figures. Right? Jay would have said that. And then eventually I would have came in with, like, whatever I come in with. But the balance of a meal is that when people walk in, they want water first. People definitely weren’t getting water first on Yeezus. I do fight with myself to say, “Keep fighting.” But also, you know, you can’t win every single fight. It’s a long war, and if you’re out there trying to, like, blow up every single building, you won’t win the war.

There Won’t Be a Yeezus Sequel

Thursday, June 27th, 2013

The Daily Beast did a nice profile on record guru Rick Rubin and he expanded a bit on his role in the creation of Kanye’s latest LP among other things. The big takeaway from the article seems to be that Kanye cut a bunch of songs from the album at Rubin’s behest and the producer does not deny the possibility that we could see a sequel or continuation of Yeezus at some point.

When he came to you with the record, did you have a sense of what needed to be done?
Initially, he thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album. But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, “Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.” That was one of the first breakthroughs. Kanye was like, “That’s what I came here today to hear! It could be 10 songs!”

So there might be another Yeezus in the pipeline?
Might be.

My money says that shit is not going to happen. If we know anything about Kanye, it’s that he’s not going to do anything you expect him to do. Just the mere fact that Rubin has said this in public means it won’t happen. That’s not to say we won’t ever hear those songs or they won’t end up somewhere else, but I highly doubt he’s going to put out anything that lives in the same creative space as his previous work.

Audio: Kanye Calls DJ Enuff Over Hottest MCs List

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

“Yeah #7 bothers me – Kanye

Kanye calls up DJ Enuff and breaks his media boycott by giving his first radio interview in years, since probably the now infamous Matt Lauer incident. Ye says he thinks Lil Wayne is the #1 rapper in the world (of what year I don’t know), that he was poorly ranked because people didn’t like Cruel Summer, brings up his legacy and says he gave Sway his first TV before hanging up.

“I said I should have Jay drop him from the team…

“I gave Sway his first TV, and he need to remember that. *hangs up*”

Dead @ Kiss with hair. I remember one time he was in the barbershop talking about he could never rock the dark Caesar because he’d look like Sidney Poitier. He wasn’t lying. *Kiss laugh*.

Astute sneakerheads noticed that Kanye broke out the yet to be released, or even properly photographed, Air Yeezy 2 for his Coachella set last night. There are a bunch of fuzzy screenshots floating around today for your review, but Ibn Jasper just posted what appears to be the first clear shot of the kicks to surface yet. Fuzzy shot of the entire sneaker after the jump.

Here’s the DJ Premier Beat Kanye Turned Down

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Via DJ Premier Blog, here’s the beat Preemo submitted to Kanye for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It ain’t hard to tell why he turned it down though. Not only is it not anything special, it would have sounded completely out of place on that album. Bun B also passed on it for whatever reason.
