MF DOOM Shouts J Dilla on His Birthday

The late great J Dilla would have turned 43 today and as fans and friends around the world pay tribute in their own personal ways, MF DOOM makes a rare appearance to call for a moment of silence from that same boat we last saw him shouting Sean Price from back in 2015.

The Making of J Dilla’s The Diary

In this new clip from Mass Appeal Hi-Tek, Nottz, Karriem Riggins, House Shoes, Bilal, Snoop Dogg and others discuss the inspiration behind the posthumous Dilla Rap album The Diary and how it was painstakingly reconstructed from Dilla’s archived files after his death in 2006. The album just saw it’s first wide release and is available for purchase now in digital, CD and vinyl formats.

Today, J Dilla’s posthumous 2008 album Jay Love Japan sees a wide re-release on vinyl, CD and digital formats. The project, which first surfaced as a bootleg after Dilla’s passing in 2006, saw an official release two years later, only to quickly go out of print. Now that album is widely available for purchase by JD fans the world over. Guests include Blu, Exile, Baatin, Ta’Raach and Miguel. Video: J Dilla ft. Nas – The Sickness (Prod. by Madlib)

The spirit of Dilla lives on in the new video for the Madlib produced “The Sickness” featuring Nas as some throwback footage is deftly employed to bring the late legend’s spirit to life. This is of course a bonus cut on Dilla’s long delayed but just released Rap album The Diary.

J Dilla ft. Snoop Dogg & Kokane – Gangsta Boogie

This past weekend, Dr. Dre premiered “Gangsta Boogie,” a new Hi-Tek produced cut from the upcoming J Dilla Rap album The Diary featuring Snoop Dogg and Kokane. A CDQ stream has since been liberated by Mass Appeal Records, who will be releasing The Diary on April 15th.

Nas Premieres New J Dilla Collab “The Sickness” at SXSW

Last night at Mass Appeal’s Live at the BBQ showcase at SXSW, Nas previewed a new track called “The Sickness” that finds him trading verses with the late J Dilla. The song, produced by Madlib, will appear on the upcoming Dilla Rap album The Diary, which arrives next month. The track was not previously included on the tracklist, so I presume it’s one of the two bonus tracks that you see on the iTunes listing.
