Yasiin Bey Talks Trump, Return to Music and Film

Wednesday, August 30th, 2017

Yasiin Bey stopped by Hot 97 for an honest, enlightening and at times hilarious discussion with Ebro and Laura Stylez. Over the course of an hour, they talk Mayweather vs. Mcgregor, his legal issues in South Africa, the exploitation of the African continent at large, the importance of seeing the world with your own eyes and the lack of leadership in the Trump era and how crazy the United States is looking in the eyes of the rest of the world.

He also goes deep into why he has fallen back from acting and music over the past several years, critiques the artists of today and the deals they are signing and speaks to whether or not we’ll see him returning to the game anytime soon. Finally, he speaks on Colin Kaepernick and the hypocrisy on his inability to find a job and the national conflict over Confederate flags, statues and history.

Video: Uncle Murda – Funkmaster Flex Freestyle

Friday, August 19th, 2016

Uncle Murda links with Flex to lay down an in-studio freestyle full of his signature eyebrow-raising bars:

“Girls like them new Drake songs, they don’t care if he didn’t write that”

Flex got a kick out of that one. Be sure to check out Murda’s new record “Cam’ron Voice” at the link below.

Ebro on Meek Mill’s Failure to Respond to Drake

Tuesday, July 28th, 2015

Last night Meek Mill pulled a fast one on the entire Rap Internet when he failed to deliver a response to Drake’s “Charged Up” after Funkmaster Flex stated outright that he’d be playing a new Meek record during his 7:00 pm show on Hot 97. The reaction from angry fans hungry for some good old fashioned Rap beef was swift and relentless. Meek took a loss. Flex took a loss. Stop fucking tweeting and talking shit on stage Meek and drop a song.

On his show this morning, Ebro revealed that it was Meek and his camp that didn’t come through. Flex was promised a song and pumped up the reponse record accordingly, beleiving he’d have something to play last night. The song never came. Ebro speculates that maybe Meek was just trying to poke Drake and see how he would react, but that can’t be it, can it? This isn’t Meek’s first day at Rap camp. He has to understand how this would look to the public.

Particularly in the age of social media, you don’t get to just pull shit like this and think it’s gonna fly. Memes will be generated. Thinkpieces will be written. You will be called out as scared, unprepared or both. Or maybe your girl, a good friend of your new nemesis, stepped in and shut shit down? The fact is, we won’t know until Meek either speaks on it or makes the reasons irrelevant by dropping a record. Drop that record Meek.

After 17 years, Ciph decides to leave Hot 97.

Official statement below:

Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. Cipha Sounds said, “After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I’m changing my relationship status from ‘it’s complicated’ to ‘single’. It’s been an amazing ride – from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie’s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge.”

Best wishes to the homie Ciph but I think he’ll be ok. I still need my “weekly” Juan Epstein fix from him & Peter though.
