Rick Rubin Teams with Flying Lotus, A-Trak on Star Wars Headspace

With The Force Awakens vaporizing box office records and two more Star Wars films on the way, the iconic franchise will be dominating pop culture conversations for the foreseeable future. Legendary record man and genius whisperer Rick Rubin is getting in on the fun with a new compilation album called Stars Wars Headspace which is going to feature original productions from the likes of Flying Lotus, A-Trak, Baauer, Röyksopp and Shlomo among others. The project not only draws direct inspiration from George Lucas’ space opera, it also incorporates audio samples from the films themselves such has the distinctive bleeps of R2D2 and voices of Wookies.

As if that lineup wasn’t already crazy enough, “The Lavishments of Light Looking,” additionally features vocals from the legend George Clinton, who just last week we saw reconnecting with Kendrick Lamar for new music.

Thundercat x Flying Lotus – Them Changes

After making notable contributions to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, esteemed instrumentalist and producer Thundercat has announced a new project with Flying Lotus. The album, called The Beyond/Where the Giants Roam will be out this coming Monday the 22nd and Fly Lo produced about half of the project’s 6-tracks. Flying Lotus has been doing a monthly residency on BBC Radio1 and on tonight’s episode, he ran an interview with Kendrick Lamar in which the pair discussed a number of topics including Kendrick’s new album. You can listen to the full interview over at the BBC website, but below you’ll find a rip of the full version of “Eyes Above”, including K.Dot’s full verse. FlyLo has teased the track during live sets but this is the first time the full verse has been available.

Here’s an alternate edit of FlyLo’s “Never Catch Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar that he spun during a set on BBC Radio 1 last night. It’s mostly the same song but the drums have a little bit less oomph and the tempo seems somewhat slower.
