Drake Talks More Life, Kanye & Meek Mill with DJ Semtex

Sunday, February 19th, 2017

During his ongoing UK excursion, Drake sat down with the esteemed DJ Semtex for a wide-ranging interview that touched on a number of topics that he hadn’t previously addressed at length. Over the course of about an hour, the pair spoke on the early days of his career back to the So Far Gone era, his relationship with and subsequent signing by Lil Wayne and working with Dr. Dre on the project we know as Detox. He also spoke on the upcoming More Life playlist project, his high-profile beef with Meek Mill, his working relationship with alleged ghostwriter Quentin Miller, “Pop Style” and becoming a target of Kanye West during one of his more infamous rants.

You can stream the full interview below and head over to Semtex’s site for an extensive transcript.

Video: Pusha T Says He Recorded 20 Verses for Cruel Summer

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

Pusha T had his first solo show in London on Monday night, and DJ Semtex caught up with him during his time there. Semtex asks how many songs didn’t make Cruel Summer and Pusha says that he recorded 20 verses, mentions a song with Big Sean & Common called “Trash Bags” (think: strip clubs) but says Cruel Winter is a Kanye and Q-Tip thing, for now.

Swizzy says Jay sounds hungry which I find hard to believe. He may be focused and he may be making good music, but he’s far from hungry. He’s not even peckish.

The full interview will air this Friday on Semtex’s BBC Radio 1xtra show.

Chipmunk ft. Chris Brown & J. Cole – Champion (Remix) [CDQ]

Could do without Chris Brown rapping (fast-forward to 2:40 for Cole’s verse). Semtex has been co-signing Chipmunk for a few years now and I’m pretty sure these two met for the first time in the picture above last July.

I took a dollar to the city of the dreams
Called up my homies and then I put ’em on my team…and so we paid
And now we out in London, oh behave
Cold world if you wondering, snowy days.

Props to Mr. X

Here’s a short clip from a recent talk DJ Semtex had with Jay-Z. Here, Hov speaks on MC Hammer’s recent campaign to paint him as a satanist evildoer for simply noting that Hammer lost 30 million. Jay mentions that he actually had some nice things to say about Hammer in DECODED.

Semtex: “You brought him back, he’s doing videos, he’s on Nah Right….”
