Video: Rare Kanye West Interview From 2002

Monday, November 4th, 2013

Incredible hour-long interview with MTV’s “You Heard It First” that has never seen the light of day until now, subjects ranging from everything from meeting No I.D. in Chicago, early Roc-A-Fella days and predictions for the future that were pretty much all accurate. I’m guessing this never aired because this is almost exactly the same thing as “Last Call” from College Dropout, but more detailed.

I also realized I had never heard the full story about how he met Mos Def and Kweli. The story about Jay-Z coming up with “H to the Izzo” and him running into the bathroom to call his mom is CLASSIC.

Video: Mic Crenshaw ft. dead prez – Superheroes

Thursday, October 24th, 2013

New music from Minneapolis by way of Chicago MC Mic Crenshaw featuring stic.man and M1.

Legendary spoken word artist and socially conscious emcee Mic Crenshaw teamed up with Dead Prez for a classic tribute to everyday people. With a beat produced by Maestro of D12 and Silent Riot Productions in Detroit, the video was shot on location in Portland Oregon by Sadri and Hasenkopf of Salmon 109. Using local dancers and their families as the cast, this video turns the ordinary into extraordinary. We live in a society where food, clothes, shelter, education and the necessities of life are less and less of a guarantee. The degree to which there is an assault on working class people is constantly escalating. In this environment, keeping oneself, one’s family and each other healthy, strong and positive is heroic indeed. We don’t look to hollywood or Washington DC for inspiration, we look to each other and help ourselves.

Available for purchase now on iTunes.

Video: dead prez – No Way As The Way

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

M1 and stic.man give us a visual for “No Way As The Way” off their recently released Information Age Deluxe Edition, which is available now.

stic gave Complex the science on the track:

“The song ‘No Way As The Way,’ that title comes from my martial arts practices. Jeet Kune Do is one of the arts that I’ve had the chance to practice. Jeet Kune Do was created by Bruce Lee. It’s an approach to martial arts that says that having no way as the way, is the way. To make it simple: not being locked into any particular way as the only way to get something done, in terms of your fighting.

That spills over into the philosophy of life in terms of having no set way, no rigid position that you’re trying to hold, but being adaptable and fluid and flowing. Long story short, that martial arts practice has inspired my thinking a lot. When we decided to write a song on Information Age about spirituality and religion, it was so fitting.”

dead prez – A New Beginning

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

dead prez announced today that they will drop Information Age, their first official release since 2004’s Revolutionary But Gangsta, through digital outlets on October 16th with a CD release to follow on October 22nd. Here’ the first single, “A New Beginning”.

On Information Age, dead prez, individually known as M-1 and stic.man, embark on their politically driven, revolutionary and eye-opening missive about hot button topics such as government control, health care and economic class. It is no coincidence that Krian is releasing the album digitally before the upcoming Presidential election.

“We feel very positive about our joint venture with Krian. We’ve had a great relationship with Royalty network for many years,” remarked dead prez. “Dead prez has always prided ourselves on our independence and integrity and we were able to form a partnership with Krian that can appreciate what dead prez’ significance to the culture is and has the capabilities to help us reach bigger goals with the Information Age album around the world. Team work makes the dream work!”
