January Execution Date Set for Cool C

Monday, November 24th, 2014

Eight years ago, I posted about the impending execution of OG Philly rapper Cool C, who was convicted of the 1996 shooting of a female police officer during the commission of a bank robbery and sentenced to death by lethal injection.

At the time, C was scheduled to be executed in March of 2006, but here we are eight years later and the sentence still hasn’t been carried out. A new execution date of January 8th was recently set by the governor of PA and it appears that it may actually happen this time. My old post pretty much sums up my feelings about the death penalty and this case in particular.

As this Cool C news is hitting the media cycle, we all sit and wait for a grand jury decision in Ferguson, MO. Officer Darren Wilson will almost certainly not be indicted for the murder of Michael Brown. Just this past weekend a cop in Brooklyn murdered an unarmed man for no good reason. It has already been ruled a homicide, but it wouldn’t surprise me he never spends a day in prison. Giuliani thinks that Black people should be lining up to thank him for saving so many of our lives. I think Amadou Diallo’s family would beg to differ.

I don’t know if Cool C shot that cop. I do know that executing him won’t bring her back. I also know that the justice system in this country is a joke and it doesn’t seem to apply to white guys with badges.

UPDATED January 8th: Apparently, a judge ordered a stay on the execution back in December, so Cool C will not be executed on January 8th.
