John Public hits the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival on behalf of End of the Weak.

End of The Weak! Saturday (7.20.09) was an incredible day for hip-hop in New York, man. Once again, the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival took over the city and brought in acts like Pharoahe Monch, Styles P, Black Thought, Craig G, Brand Nubian, Dead Prez and many more. We chopped it up with Green Lantern about his new mixtape with Emiio Rojas, Styles P’s new book, talked conspiracy theories with the Brown Bag All-Stars, Eternia’s new album with MoSS (DJ Premier’s right-hand man) and caught on-stage a performance of “Simon Says” by Pharoahe Monch.

John Public recently spoke with Monch:

Not sure why the mainstream continues to sleep on this guy, real humble cat. I caught up with Pharoahe Monch at the press day for the BK Hip-Hop festival for EOW, and he talked about being a part of this incredible event (that keeps getting better EVERY year, btw). He also talked about his touring experiences and bringing hip-hop overseas, as well as why he sees Eminem and Nas as influences in his writing process. He also reveals the possibility of doing a song with Nas. That would be fucking bonkers.

End of the Weak: Happens every Sunday, the longest-running open mic in NYC (8+ years), doors at 8pm, $10

Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival: June 18 – 20 featuring Pharoahe Monch, DJ Premier, Styles P, dead prez, Grand Puba, J Period, Torae/Marco Polo, Donny Goines, Keys & Krates, Brown Bag All-Stars and many more.
