Method Man & Black Thought – Sway in The Morning Freestyle

Thursday, October 5th, 2017

So Black Thought and Meth sit down with Sway for an interview and he puts them on the spot for some bars. If you think for a second that either of these guys was caught off guard you’ve got another thing coming to you, because they rolled up their sleeves and demolished those mics. Meth looses a couple of points for having to pull out his phone, but damn, he had some ridiculous verses stashed on that thing.

riseup

J. Period taps a trio of lyrical legends for “Rise Up!,” a new anthem for the resistance that features Black Thought De La Soul’s Posdnuos and Pharoahe Monch. Joss Stone also contributes vocals and Period tells Rolling Stone that the song was in part inspired by the success of Lin Manuel-Miranda’s Hamilton and its accompanying mixtape, which he also worked on. He explains:

“I felt that if we could create compelling music around these issues issues, we might help light a similar fire in listeners.””These are turbulent times in America, with protests and marches spilling out into the streets in record numbers, and activism on the rise. ‘Rise Up’ was born out of that same energy”

WhoShotYa

Wow, would you look at the lineup on this bad boy. Ubiquitous 80’s band Living Coulour offer up a new Rap heavy take on their remake of Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya” featuring Prodigal Sunn, Black Thought, Chuck D, Pharoahe Monch and Kyle Mansa. If you’ve ever heard the original version of the cover, you know that sonically, it differs a great deal from the Biggie original (obviously). This new remix, helmed by producer Andre Betts, moves even further away from the source material with a strong message about police brutality and the value of Black life in America. This will appear on the band’s upcoming mixtape, Mixtape, due out September 9th.
