Listen to Excerpts From an Unheard Biggie Interview

Wednesday, July 12th, 2017

Back in 1997, the year Biggie was murdered in Los Angeles, journalist Cheo Coker sat with the legendary MC for an extensive interview that touched on a number of topics that Big’s verses explored, including the similarities between the Rap and drug games, the elevation of the artist through confidence and embellishment and growing up without a father.

On September 4th, A&E will air a documentary called Biggie: The Life of Notorious B.I.G that will include audio from Coker’s sit down with the Notorious one. The following preview includes several statements from Big on those topics and more, as well as commentary from modern-day artists such as 2 Chainz, T-Pain, Mike WiLL Made-It and David Banner about Big’s lyrics and legacy.

Faith Evans & The Notorious B.I.G – The King & I (Album Stream)

Thursday, May 18th, 2017

Faith Evans takes a stab at the album she never got to make with her late husband on The King & I, a collection of tracks featuring repurposed Biggie lyrics and new contributions from Faith, Lil Cease, Snoop Dogg and Voletta Wallace. Some of these songs are kind of unfortunate, but on the other hand, we did get a couple of fire verses out of Sheek Louch and Styles P, so there’s that. Between this and Puff’s ill-advised 2005 Duets album, you would hope this would be the last Big redux project that sees the light of day, but I wouldn’t put anything past anybody.

Faith Evans & The Notorious B.I.G. ft. Sheek Louch & Styles P – Take Me There

Thursday, May 11th, 2017

Styles P and Sheek Louch join Faith Evans on “Take Me There,” produced by Just Blaze. This will, of course, appear on Faith’s upcoming duets album with Biggie, The King & I, and it features what is probably the closest thing we’re gonna get to an actual unreleased Biggie verse. The bars you hear Big spitting here are actually from a reference track that he recorded for Lil Kim’s track “Drugs,” and if you’re familiar with the original, then you know it was Kim who ultimately delivered this verse on the final version.

Faith Evans & The Notorious B.I.G. – Ten Wife Commandments

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

Oh wow, ok. So this is something that happened and was released, and now can never be taken back. For her upcoming Biggie “duets” album The King & I, Faith Evans decided to rework her late husband’s classic “10 Crack Commandments” and it went about as well as you would expect it to. I don’t understand how there was nobody, throughout the whole recording process of this album, who could’ve explained to her that these kinds of remakes of iconic tracks rarely work out well.

Lil Cease Talks Biggie at 226 St. James

Thursday, March 9th, 2017

On this 20th anniversary of the passing of the GOAT, Mass Appeal catches up with Lil Cease and Nino on the steps of Biggie’s home at 226 St. James in Bed Stuy. Cease reminisces about burning blunts in Big’s hallway back in the day and speaks on the struggle to get the block renamed Christopher Wallace Way.

This first offering is an ode to New York City that features Jadakiss going in and out with a sample from Big’s 1993 track “Mumbling and Whispering”.

Faith Says Her Biggie Duets Album is Dropping This Year

Monday, March 28th, 2016

It looks like the Faith Evans & Biggie album that she had teased a couple of years back is actually going to happen, and could be arriving as early as this year. During a recent episode of Dame Dash’s podcast/radio show, Faith called in and spoke on the progress of the album, called The King and I, and her plans to drop a single this Summer with the album release following in September. She also spoke on the possibility of her using a Big hologram to perform some of the tracks from the project and a stage play she’s writing based on her life.
