Watch Big Daddy Kane’s Tiny Desk Concert for NPR

Tuesday, February 20th, 2018

Usually a showcase for emerging or currently bubbling talent, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series throws it back with an appearance from one of the greatest of all time, Big Daddy Kane. I saw Kane perform probably 10 years ago and it still stands out as one of the best Rap performances I’ve ever witnessed. Watch below as he runs through “Raw,” “Smooth Operator” and “Ain’t No Half Steppin” before laying down some bonus bars live from the NPR offices over live instrumentation.

Video: Big Daddy Kane Live at Tramps Circa 1999

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

DJ Eclipse once again opens up his vaults and shares some rare performance footage. In this clip we have Big Daddy Kane tearing down the infamous NYC venue Tramps back in ’99 for a Prince Paul show. I saw Kane perform live once about 5 years ago and it was a transformative experience. Hands down one of the greatest live performers Rap has ever seen and when you watch this you’ll understand why. He does (most of) his verse from “The Symphony”, “Ain’t No Half Steppin”, and “Young Gifted And Black”.

Watch Jay Z Freestyle with Big Daddy Kane on Rap City in 1990

You may have seen this before, but a proper Youtube has been elusive. Until now. As noted on the video description, host Prime didn’t even ask the big homie his name! This begs the question though: was dropping that Das Efx inspired flow the greatest career decision in modern Rap history?
