Video: Kanye West – Street Lights (Fanmade)

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

This is like the 5th fan-made video we’ve posted (of this song alone) but apparently this one in particular got the thumbs up from Mr. West himself (via his cousin Tony Williams) and 88-Keys likes it too.

Update: This is actually the video for Tokyo/Glow by The Generic Man.

Featuring this year’s anthem from the NBA Playoffs, Kanye West’s “Amazing” off 808s & Heartbreak, as the backdrop. Basically, the NBA gave him a check so that they could use it for the 2009 playoffs and now he’s getting another check so that they’re can also use it on NBA 2K10. Imagine if Lebron actually takes it home next year…

Kanye West x Spike Jonze Debut “Nightmares” Short Film

Last night, Kanye West surprised the audience at the Los Angeles Film Festival with the debut of the short film We Were Once A Fairytale, directed by Spike Jonze. What was initially supposed to be a music video for the 808’s & Heartbreak track that now has a mind of it’s own:

In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club acting belligerent and boastful, telling starstruck club-goers that the song playing in the club is his. He wanders into a side room where he encounters a beautiful woman. They start having sex and then he passes out on her leopard print dress. When he comes to, he finds himself in the VIP room with his pants down – he was hallucinating and fucking the pillow. The realization startles him and he rushes to the bathroom where he vomits what look like rose petals.

Then it gets weird.

Kanye finds a bowie knife in the bathroom and cuts into his stomach, spilling a torrent of more petals. He digs in the knife deeper and then with his hand rips out a small furry rodent, like a demon, only its quite cute. When Kanye realizes it’s connected to him with an umbilical cord, he pulls it hard, ripping it out of him for good. He then puts the demon on the sink and hands him a tiny bowie knife to fit the critter’s scale who then uses it to commit hari kari.

They go on to say that the video takes what people like and hate about Ye’s persona and pushes it to the limit, the video also “walks the fine line between self aggrandizement and self mockery.” The piece also mentions that the song has beens remixed (sort of like Paranoid was) and that it was done by Spike Jonze’ brother, Squeak E. Clean of N.A.S.A.

Mr. Hudson Speaks About Jay-Z’s “Forever Young”

They made this song before they did the 808’s cuts:

“That was my last day in Hawaii,” he explains. “I was about to go back to London for a couple of weeks.” Before the U.K. native departed, he and the Chi-Town MC sipped on a few drinks, and then returned to the studio. “We just did it at the last minute,” says Hudson. “It sounded massive and everyone was dancing around. Kanye knew he [did] it again.”

Once the record was complete, West sent it along to Mr. Carter. “I think [Jay-Z] played it 150 times in a day, because he rang Kanye up and said, ‘I just looked at iTunes and the count is at 150,’” Mr Hudson reveals. “And that was only 24 hours later [after he received the song]. With the good news in tow, the singer headed back to England. “I went home happy that I had made a track and Jay-Z liked it.”

While Mr Hudson has not yet had the opportunity to be in the studio alongside Jay, the rapper took a liking to the pop star’s distinct sound from afar. Hudson is featured on two other songs on The Blueprint 3, though their titles remain a mystery. “I sang on a whole lot of beats, so I don’t know which ones they’ll be using,” he admits. “It’ll be a surprise for me. I said to Kanye the other day when we were in L.A., ‘Are you sure I’m on three tracks?’ [and] he’s like, ‘Yeah, you are.’”

It’s Chris Milk along with the Graphics Lab that worked on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Kanye says it’s a different concept, but it’s ironic because Yeezy mentioned Benjamin Button when the Vibe cover gave him some salt and pepper in his beard.

Here’s a behind the scenes glimpse:
