So as you may have heard on Twitter, #TeamNah suffered a mind-boggling defeat at the first annual #MaddenBattle Championship last night. I honestly don’t know what happened. The first round saw self-described Madden rookie Freeway put up a valiant effort against the homie Action Bronson only to fall in a edge-of-your seat overtime showdown. Next up, I faced off against the legendary Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian for 4 quarters and let’s just say that he took that round and leave it at that. No need to even mention the score. But it was far from over at that point!
Maffew Ragazino, who went out an purchased a PS3 system just so he could practice for the battle, took us well into the second round with a win against Hof from OnSMASH and damn near put an early end to Action Bronson’s night. As team captain, I was more than happy with Ragazino’s performance, but in true Brooklyn fashion, the homie spent a good 5 minutes beating himself up for not taking the title. But it still wasn’t over! Gilbere Forte’, who stepped in as an alternate for Emilio Rojas, took us all the way to Round 3 and came within seconds of beating out Troy Ave for a trip to the #MaddenBattle Bowl.
At the end though, it just wasn’t our night. After a surpsie forfeit by Bronson and Madden beast Asher Roth, Troy Ave took the title for Team OnSMASH. He of course walks away with a custom championship ring custom designed by Gabe Urist and more importantly, bragging rights until next year. Shout to all of the good folks at Complex for all of their hard work in putting this together, and DJ’s Clockwork and Freshbeats for providing the soundtrack. Stay tuned for a “smack-talk” re-cap video from Levi Maestro.
