Complex Previews Raekwon’s Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Complex has a pretty extensive track-by-track summary of Rae’s new project, including “Rich & Black” the cut with Gnozir:

Prior to its release, much of the chatter about Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 revolved around whether or not Nas would make a guest appearance to follow-up his legendary verse on “Verbal Intercourse”. In the end, fans were disappointed when Nasty didn’t make a cameo and Nas himself admitted he regretted not appearing on the album. We’re guessing he tried to make it up with this record, but this song is more “Let My Niggas Live” (Nas’ other Wu-Tang collab) than it is “Verbal Intercourse”. “Timbs yellow like a Malibu surfer hair be” raps Nas on this track, which should signal that the heavier themes of the rest of the record aren’t really present here. Rae goes off on the second verse though.

Earlier in the review of the album’s title cut, which I fux with, they say if you like that song, you’ll like the album. So if this Nas is more “Let My Niggas Live” then “VI”, then I’m not all that excited to hear it. On the other hand, I need this “Snake Pond” joint in my life immediately.

“She once shot up a Chipotle, but don’t quote me”

Peep the full preview here.

Edit: While composing this post I mistook the Nas track for another cut that they said didn’t jel with the album. I made an edit above, but it doesn’t change anything, I’m still not all that excited to here “Rich & Black” for some reason.

Video: Common Debuts “Believe” in Hawaii

Something made me wanna listen to “Misunderstood” and “Black Maybe” last week and I decided to just sit through all of Be and Finding Forever again, and please believe me when I say The Believer is at the top of my list of most anticipated albums.

Common says it’s coming.
