De La Soul Smell The Da.I.S.Y. Vinyl Contest

Friday, April 18th, 2014

In honor of Record Store Day (4/19) and the Easter holiday weekend, De La Soul is releasing 100 copies of a limited edition vinyl set of an all instrumental version of the “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” project with J. Dilla.

Says De La Soul:

“The reason we choose to release a all instrumental version of “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” is to give people the experience of a J Dilla beat tape that we were so lucky to recieve. These beat tapes were the springboard that generated creation and generated inspiration for us.”

The vinyl release is very limited, only 100 copies will be released to stores, to resemble the limited amount of beat tapes that Dilla would actually send out to artists like Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Busta, De La Soul and many more. The vinyl contains instrumentals of all 11 tracks from the “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” mixtape plus 1 exclusive, unreleased, never heard before J Dilla beat.

J Dilla was a heavy crate digger that scoured the earth for exclusive vinyl to sample, and if you want this project you’ll have to do the same. The vinyl will be released on Friday, April 18th, 2014 to coincide with the Record Store Day 4/19 and the Easter holiday 4/20. De La has hand picked exclusive record shops in the USA, Canada, and the UK to carry this release. If you would like clues on where you can find it please go to http://www.wearedelasoul.com. If your not lucky enough to find one, De La Soul will also be auctioning off a few autographed copies on ebay and all proceeds will go to J Dilla’s family.

Watch a short teaser video, along with the project’s track list, after the jump and head to our Facebook page to see how you can get your hands on a copy.

Video: At Home With A-Trak

Thursday, April 17th, 2014

The track playing in the background is the Low Pros (A-Trak & Lex Luger) ft. Juvenile that we premiered last month, right here.

Today we’re releasing an interview with A-Trak, filmed from his home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In the midst of his touring schedule and yesterday’s release of his DJ duo Duck Sauce’s debut album, “Quack”, the DJ/Producer/Record Label Owner showed us around his pad, giving a behind-the-scenes tour of his at-home studio, his equipment, and how he spends his downtime.

Make sure you support the homie A-Trak’s Quack album with legendary DJ Armand Van Helden under their Duck Sauce moniker here. It’s sure to be a good one.

Or stream the album in its entirety after the jump.

MICK – Greetings Earthling: Outkast Rarities & Remixes (Mixtape)

Saturday, April 12th, 2014

Our good friend MICK (formerly Mick Boogie) apparently got inspired to do this mixtape after he saw the “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” remix by Diamond D in our “Top 20 Remixes of 1994″ feature so he let us drop this. Shouts to him. NAHRIGHT premiere.

A message from MICK:

Greetings Earthling: Outkast, hands down, is one of my favorite groups of all time – in any genre of music. Their music set trends, defined a generation, and created a mood unlike any other. In honor of their Coachella reunion, I put together a fun mix of Big Boi and Andre 3000 rarities, demos, collaborations and remixes. If you’re a MICK (or Mick Boogie – remember him?) fan, you’ll find this similar to the retrospectives I did for A Tribe Called Quest and the Beastie Boys. If you’re looking for Outkast’s greatest hits or stuff from their albums, you’re out of luck. Go to iTunes and buy those right now. If you’re a true fan and looking to dig a little bit deeper and really enter the world of the Dungeon Family – this is made for you. And it’s hella long – maybe TOO long – almost two hours! Lastly, check out the special painted original cover we created – made by Deftone of Jolly Awesome. Take me to your leader…
