The NFLPA Investigating Roc Nation Sports Deal w/ Geno Smith

The NFL Players Association is said to be launching an investigation into the deal that brought Jets QB draftee Geno Smith to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports. Under NFL rules, only NFLPA-certified sports agents are allowed to be involved in the recruitment of prospective clients and Jay’s involvement in closing the deal with Smith is now coming under increased scrutiny.

Although Smith’s adviser John Thornton told CBS Sports, “It really all came down to who he was most comfortable with. I was in those meetings and Jay-Z connected with him on many levels”, he later claimed that he was misquoted. Since Jay is not a certified agent, his presence in those meetings would be a clear violation of league rules. It didn’t help that Smith Instagramed the above picture a few days before his deal with Roc Nation Sports was announced.
