Kanye is a great lyricist but not in the same way Jay, Nas, or Raekwon is. Those guys are all characterchures, portraits of hyper masculine thugs with no sense of humanity. I’m not questioning they’re status as GOATS but Ye opened up the game to real live human beings. You wouldnt catch Nas dead admitting he used to pee in the bed.
Lyrics aren’t below the level they were in the 90s, its different from where it was in the 90s.
