“Beat that pussy up like Emmitt Till”
That line caused a whole bunch of non-troversy this past week when it was brought to the attention of the old folks who’s job it is to get outraged about such things. Now, I’m no Lil Wayne apologist, but I think it’s his right to construct whatever shitty metaphor he wants to, no matter how tasteless, crass or disgusting it may be.
And I totally get how Till’s family might be offended by the line, I’m sure I would be too. But all this talk about boycotts and bringing in Jesse Jackson is just fucking ridiculous. All you people are doing is bringing more attention to a song that sounds like 20 other songs currently in rotation. The best thing to do would have been to issue a statement and keep it moving and the song probably would’ve went away. You’re telling me Jesse Jackson doesn’t have anything better to do with his time?
And don’t even get me started on this cycle of fake Twitter outrage that we go through every month. I mean, fucking spare me. I seriously wish Future’s label would’ve just ignored this whole fake controversy because I was so looking forward to pointing out how you had all forgotten about this shit next week. Instead, they tried to front like the version with the Till line was an unauthorized leak, then they folded and re-released the track with a minor edit so you can’t hear the name “Emmitt Till”, and are now scrambling to C&D the original leak into oblivion. Because you know, once something is removed from one place on the internet, it’s gone forever.
