Cracka-ass-crackas they may be but Pitchforks review of the Illmatic reissue is the best review I’ve ever read of that album.
^
I just can’t.
When the Source went downhill, we as a culture lost the one and only authoritative review cats was checking for.
XXL tried their whole large, x-large, x-x-large scale…nobody cared.
Only thing that held weight was the 5 mics rating system.
After that went down the tubes because Benzino was changing ratings, it was a wrap.
Now you gotta just test the content yourself.
In any event the reviews don’t matter any more – a 4 or 5 mic review meant I would spend that $12.99 at Best Buy to copp an album.
Now I don’t buy music anyway, I download it…so I don’t really need a review. If the product sucks, I delete it off the hard drive…vamoose, son of a bitch!

Chief Keef’s deals all depend on album sales. If “Finally Rich” doesn’t sell at least 250,000 albums by December 2013, Interscope has the right to pull the plug on subsequent album releases — two albums and a compilation of hits, according to the deal.
^^
Whoo, thats cold but thats pretty smart. Iovine covering his ass with that one.
*takes notes*

To be fair I was talking about the actual writing. Noone here needs to test Illmatic. He gets in depth talking about Ill Will and the way Queensbridge is secluded off from the rest of NY. Shit got me listening to it right now with fresh ears.

Ahh but you can miss some great music this way, sometimes shit needs to sink in. I didnt get into Return to the 36 Chambers until like, a year and a half after I bought it.

All of the Wu stuff took a little while to sink in…that’s a fair point.
GZA’s album took the longest but then once I overstood the classic symphony he had constructed I was like “FML this nigga is a genius.”
