I review every album I listen to, I just stopped writing em down lol.
Don’t have the time like I used to, but I still think about writing/blogging every now & then.
I have an epic review in my head for Long.Live.A$AP & Finally Rich & how they are basically two sides of the same coin.
I might have to actually publish that one.

I thought the A$AP album was pretty dope first couple listens…I saw most people were kinda underwhelmed

How many times do you listen to an album when you review it?
I read a writer’s take on doing reviews…he said he forced himself to listen to the album front to back 5 times with no skipping (that shit could be tough) and then wrote his review. Listened to it one last time and then revised the review.
It’s gotta be tough nowadays because half the album is out there way in advance…so it’s hard to review an album as a whole when you’ve already played out 2 or 3 of the tracks by the time it’s released.

As many times as it takes to pinpoint the highlights & lows & get an overall theme for the review.
I like to write as I listen to an album, revising it as I discover new things or think of different ways to articulate how I feel about a song or a verse or the overall theme.
But those leaks do change how I interpret a song in the general context of an album. Sometimes those songs don’t fit into the album when you listen to it because they are no longer fresh. Other times, they fit right in & don’t detract from the overall listening experience. Those are the signs of a good single, one that was first heard months ago but still fit neatly into place with all the other songs.
Keef’s album is a perfect example. I’d heard a quarter of the album a while ago but everything fits into place sonically/thematically. But Keef is kinda limited anyway & Chop did most of the album so that makes perfect sense.

songs good hands down. rap needs more of this. only thing that brags about money is the hook.. other than that the lyrics have good meaning
