Wiz has melodies which help make his songs more memorable. The beats are just plain better (Rise Above > Chasin Paper) and even tho Spitta’s production choices are more avant garde by design, the beats on here manage to be progressive but still capture the same swing & vibe as Kush & OJ.
It’s Kush & OJ with a dash of Rolling Papers pop sensibility. It’s Taylor Allderdice on GHB.
Wiz adding Juicy J to the team makes even more sense when you hear ONIFC. His DNA is all over the place (Trippy!). The entire project is incredibly hooky, eclectic without going too far left and the worst tracks (IMO, the Akon joint & Medicated) are easily overlooked.
Wiz’s debut left so much to be desired from hardcore fans, all he had to do was “stick to the script” and make a big budget version of Taylor Allderdice to win & that’s exactly what he did.
