No shots either Brian, real talk. Is street promotion dead?
^^
No offense taken bro. But yeah, I think street promo is essentially dead. It got to the point that there were so many flyers, posters, billboards etc up that people just started tuning them all out. Once oversaturation happens to something, its hard to bring t back
Selling CDs out of your trunk is also a dead art. Hell, with my last tape, I tried handing em out, and alot of people weren’t even willing to take free ones, lol.
The key now (I think) is finding the lane you think you want to appeal to, getting posted on the sites that cater to that lane, and kinda just going from there.
One thing that will never die tho, is live performances. Open mics, whatever, in order for it to work, you HAVE to get out there.
Obviously, this is all just my opinion, but I think the last few years of rap have proven it to be a justified stance.

Dope record. Sounds like Jeezy’s back in his zone. TM103 wasn’t completely wack, but it was like he forgot or discounted everything (content wise and sonically) that made Recession such an amazing album. This sounds like what I wanted/expected his post Recession material to sound like.

A real hook would’ve been nice though.

> this right here…
my peoples wouldn’t have any internet existence without it. we started out with a NYC connect getting us shows out there while simultaneously posting the shows along with the music on the net. our first shows were all in nyc. by the time we did shows in new england one of our songs made it to a top 30 hip hop list in the uk.
of course things wane tho if there’s a hiatus of that but hitting the ground doing shows & jus telling folks to google the name keeps the wave alive for the next round.
shits a rat race but persistence could allow for an artist to strike gold if you touch this tech savvy generation with quality live music.

its simple but hard at the same time
the goal of an aspiring rapper should be to gain enough fans so that you can fill up a venue of at minimum 150 people that will pay to see you in multiple major cities in the country
November 6th, 2012 at 8:50 pm
if you cant get at minimum 150 paying fans to see you perform
dont call yourself an “artist”
