Various different approaches you can take first of all

In a nut shell

first look at your age in position in life , if you my age (24) you should be takin risks

focus on small small to mid cap companies that have a lot of room to grow

i.e Coke one of the biggest brands on earth , Large Cap , in Coca Cola is in damn near every country on the planet..they dont have a huge amount of room to grow.

This doesnt mean coke shares wont continue to grow they just will do so at a slower rate

If you dont want to focus on individual stocks and just want some exposure to the market tthats even easier

ask your self ..where do you think american bussiness is going in the next 5 years if your a bullish on the american market (you think it will do well) then just purchase shares of S&P 500 Index Fund ( it goes up if the market goes up)

If your a bearish on the american market over all and think it will go down purchase shares of an Invesrse Index Fund (it goes UP as the market goes DOWN)

If your savy and knowledgable about foreign markets you can use these same investment vehicles in other countries , brazil , india , china , germany ETC
