Saigon on Rick Ross: “Why ya’ll supportin’ a nigga that promotes the destruction of our community?”

Speaking to SOHH recently, Saigon called out Rozay for what he perceives as a lack of substantial lyrical content:

“Why ya’ll supportin’ a n*gga that promotes the destruction of our community? Why are you doin’ that? Why would you let this n*gga thrive and we don’t know where our next jobs are coming from? He’s rapping about selling kilos of cocaine and selling drugs. This is what he’s about, this whole lifestyle saying he’s so rich and he eats shrimp every night, and ya’ll support this sh*t?,” Sai told SOHH, referring to Ross. “Ya’ll broke and poor and your family’s about to get kicked out. That’s our hit son! That’s his hit. Nobody knows the words to this song, all they know is “ass, ass, ass, ass, ass, ass, ass” [background noises]. We don’t care about “ass, ass, ass, ass,” but this is the society we livin’ in right now. So it’s like alright.”

But that’s the thing though Sai, niggas love it. People love being told how shitty their lives are compared to the life of the guy they just gave their $14 too. Ross, Kanye, Jay-Z, Curtis, Diddy, all of the most successful artists of the last decade have relentlessly flaunted their wealth in our faces and we eat it up. I guess it’s aspirational in a way, we all want to get to that level so we live vicariously though the MC’s lyrics, but then again it’s not even always about money.

I was thinking about this last night while I was listening to Ross’ verse on “Retrosuperfuture”. Homeboy is straight up tellin me he’s been fucking my girl for the last couple days and I’m over here nodding my head and rapping along with him like an idiot. We stay getting threatened with physical violence, robbery, kidnapping, extortion and worse, and we keep coming back for more. It’s funny because we listen to this shit and in our heads we’re justifying all the shit rappers talk to us with “well, they’re not talking to me”. No, of course not, they must be talking to that nameless, faceless entity that every rapper pictures as they pen their bars. Don’t kid yourself, of course they’re talking to you. To be safe, just assume they’re talking to anybody that’s not in their immediate crew. Rick Ross doen’t give a fuck about our communities and we couldn’t care less as long as the beat is knocking!

UPDATE: Saigon claims he never said any of that.

While I certainly wouldn’t put it past SOHH to have taken Sai’s word’s out of context, it’s hard to argue that Ross doesn’t fit the bill of the type of MC Saigon was describing in that quote, if that quote is in fact real. Either way, SMH @ the Rap Internets.

Words spoken by every single Ross fan at some point.

I dig some of his shit though, not the brainless repetitive tracks he’s found his comfort zone in…but he will come through from time to time.

  23. DJ Chase Says:

What is Sai, and by extension, eskay saying…

Are they mad that people like ross’ music, or that they don’t like Sai’s music?

  24. AFGun Says:

there is what eskay said, and then theres also the part about wanting to listen to good music. and these artists that make these songs like ass asss ass ass, cater to a certain audience. u dont wana be in a club bumping some shit about how u just got kicked out ur house. u wana celebrate and ball out. saigon is mad cuz he dont get no love or playtime. the thing is, your straight doo doo. nobody wana hear ur corny ass dun. ur music is horrible. i cant stand it. ive tried many times to add u to the playlist but ur just unbearable. and whats worst is that u think ur good. and maybe 5 other niggaz do too. so u expect us to listen to ur crap. j. cole raps about real struggles, but we like him, cuz he has a good delivery. look at what ur doing wrong as an artist before u attack the fanbase that isnt supporting ur filth. fuk outta here faggot

  25. AFGun Says:

maybe they are talkin about us in their music, but fuck who they referring to. when i listen to music i personalize it to myself. its like a movie or video game. i dont listen in 3rd person retrospective, i take it in as if im the main character. they makin music for me to relate to. they made it but its my song now. its not some nigga talkin bout me, its me talkin to other niggaz. its like a soundtrack to my life. im fuckin the next niggaz bitch. nobody fuckin mine. maybe u think niggaz are dissin u cuz u fit the bill of the bitch nigga he talkin bout. i personally dont feel that way. to me, if the song is comin out my speaker, its coming from me directed at anyone else. when im cruisin around blastin some shit thats me talkin to y’all

  26. AFGun Says:

and why’s this faggot talkin like he never made music where he talked bout fuckery and selling drugs, killin niggaz n shit. u aint exactly a conscious rapper urself. ur mad cuz u dont have what it takes to be a big star. ur always gona b a little nigga with a tiny fanbase. i personally dont even like ur character. i see saigon as a lil bitch just always whyning and complaining like a hoe. go find another nigga to sucker punch then run as fast as u possibly can lol. maybe this time ull get more attention for it. pussy nigga. yardfather my ass bitch. u use to get smacked around in jail like a bitch now u out here actin hard.

  27. dbo Says:

saigon has more talent in his left ball then rick ross and the whole maybach music team does. That said, he really shouldnt be wining about this stuff. Sai is the fucking man and makes great music.

  28. Doctor Bulldog Says:

You’re right, eskay, there is definitely an aspirational quality to his music. Rick Ross is taking a page straight out of the Republican playbook. Rick Ross, like Republicans don’t give a fuck about you. He wouldn’t be caught dead with you, and yet uneducated, working class niggas worship him because they believe that maybe one day they too can attain all his wealth. It’s similar to how Republicans like Mitch Daniels says there are no “haves” and “have-nots” in America, only “haves” and “soon-to-haves.” Republicans hang the carrot of wealth in front of poor whites and tell them that we can’t raise taxes on the wealthy because one day they too will be rich, despite the fact that it’s statistically impossible for everyone to be rich and there isn’t a path to any kind of substantial wealth for the vast majority of Americans

  29. Carlos Starboyant Says:

this is too deep for the intro, i mean, for nahright

  30. AFGun Says:

i aint no fan of officer ricky but like i said, its all about good music. people like to bump bangers. music that makes u feel good and hypes u up. nobody want to feel depressed about their life after listening to a song. this is hip hop after all. its not no fairy tale rainbow shit. and the genre of rap he’z reffering to are club bangers and gangsta rap who serve their own purpose. there is a lane specifically made for that conscious shit, and if its not as popular, it is what it is. people will listen to what they feel. me personally it depends on my mood. but who the fuck is this guy to even be sayin shit. ur irrelevant homie. and it aint all that complicated as u people makin it sound. its quite simple n common sense shit lol

  31. GMLLZ Says:

    SK…well said.

  32. Sir Fakely Deep Says:

rick ross’ music is for the retards who think one day they’re just going to wake up rich. like the american dream is a privilege extended to every person who wants it. NO. you are going to stay broke and screaming ‘faggot’ at people who point out how fucking stupid you are.

  33. AFGun Says:

lmao @ lames soundin like a broken record. y’all sheep just say what a next nigga says. if any of u bitches had half a brain you’d manage to form ur own thoughts and ideas. niggaz shouldnt speak on intelligence when they clearly have none. id do circles around u niggaz, so dont be speakin on ur daddy.
