I wonder how well an artist like biggie would fare in 2012 if he were a new act, would this see em before you hear em era be a gift or a curse?
I remember the days when we would hear an artist and only have an image in our head of them until we finally saw what they looked like.
March 19th, 2012 at 2:11 pm
Wale was really trying to eat random broads asses that he followed on twitter
March 19th, 2012 at 2:11 pm

This era is cursed
Ready to Die woulda sold 20k copies
You’ll have people saying he’s wack cuz he don’t got enough youtube views or some shit.
Hip hop is dead, not just because of emcees, the fans too.
March 19th, 2012 at 2:15 pm
I go from “Made you look” to “The fuck you lookin at?”
In two seconds flat, so who’s testing that?

Fans today are uneducated.
I put on NWA’s Niggas4Life for these young niggas & got greeted by a wall of blank stares.
Nigga told me Ghostface is the wackest MC ever & Wu-Tang is old folks music.
Hip-Hop is doomed.

Ghostface is second only to Nas in my list.
I’d slap anyone talking down on Ghost or Wu, their music changed my life. Real rap
March 19th, 2012 at 2:22 pm
Its very disturbing that I can put on a cd from 15 years ago, and hear more impressive wordplay, and lyricism than anything out now.
March 19th, 2012 at 2:23 pm
Can’t imagine Biggie as a new artist in 2012. He represented NYC at the time and of course a lot of these new guys are here because of him.
Imagine French as a new artist in 1997 though…

Wu-Tang is old folks music.

To be fair, for the most part it is. Think about how long ago they came out and how old you were then and how old you are now.

But the lack of understanding & respect for the art is disgusting. You may not fuck with what Ghost is saying but how can you not give him props for the way he’s saying it?
I used to sit and try to decipher songs from Nas, Wu-Tang, etc.
Heads today don’t have the aptitude or the patience to find the gems. Everything is instant gratification, no one wants to sit down & really listen.
Which is why an artist like Curren$y will never get his proper etiquette.
Kids today are fucking idiots.
March 19th, 2012 at 2:28 pm
hip-hop super dead, youngins’ run this shit cause niggas in their 20′s and 30′s want to be kids FOREVER
…niggas look like the clown that makes the balloons at your kid’s party, doing what even kids say, like they know any better.
almost 30 and proud > almost 30 tryna swag out with stupid 19 year olds
March 19th, 2012 at 2:30 pm

He’d have been triple platinum already.
Catchy, radio ready music is gonna hit regardless of the era.
French is a star.
March 19th, 2012 at 2:31 pm
meh… I rarely if at all listen to rapers from the 80′s…
young niggas probably feel the same way about 90′s rap…

That doesn’t make “Method Man” or “Cream” or Protect Ya Neck” any less potent.
But then again, I witnessed the Wu come up, I heard those songs in the streets, at block parties, bumping out boomboxes & walkmen.
I’ll always appreciate the Wu’s movement because I know what that did for Hip-Hop.
Kids today have no sense of history past Pac & Biggie. They aren’t educated about the classics so how can they appreciate them?
March 19th, 2012 at 2:33 pm

I wish french the best real nigga, looks out for his fam.
He was down wit this crew called dfl or some shit like dat, I remember them falling out over some bitch. One thing I will say about french, he always rapped like was tryna start a party, I thought he was horrible whn I first heard him rap in a cypher, but he had the crowd with him. This is the same cat that was asking/begging artist to do a drop for his then unheard of cocaine city dvd’s.
March 19th, 2012 at 2:39 pm

niggas like khalad and french do numbers cause of that retard swag and admiration for hip-hop

March 19th, 2012 at 2:40 pm

^^
Oh they don’t. I don’t think it really matters in this day and age though. Music has changed. The way we get music and the forms it comes in has changed. The culture of music has changed. It ain’t just rap.
What’s funny though, the first young (18-23) yr old that comes with any hint of lyrical quality and disses pretty much every rapper and is commercially marketable will probably change the game for the better.

I was too young to come up on wu, but I still love the movement. I always loved the sport of hip hop tho.
So when I heard “Daytona 500″ for the 1st time, I was hooked.
I grew up in a bamma-area too, no one would bump wu here.

March 19th, 2012 at 2:44 pm
Only thing I’m not excited about is Mannie Freezy’s lessondary beats getting rapped-on by a amateur ass nicca like Big Sean.
“Well I wobbledy wobbledy ‘fore she hobbledy hobbledy then she gobbled me gobbled me prolly wallabe wallabe.”

only thing i no sign from wu is method man and ghost’s abuse of bodega clothing…
two durags, matching afghan scarfs, toothbrushes, white tee’s, sweat bands, etc…
ghost’s gets a partial pass cause he kept it g with boxing robes…
March 19th, 2012 at 2:45 pm

niggas ain’t go through no pain or spit real life i can’t feel them….black kids are more white these days than white kids products of 70′s babies eating off that clinton era boom in the economy, that’s why white rappers are selling.
…it’s even playing ground now, in the 90′s you we’re a brave white boy if you even thought about wandering off the beaten path. you w’ere subject to random beat downs just for being white, or when roots came on

It’ s not about kicking knowledge, it’s about sharing real life experiences, being your self as opposed to just following what everyone else is doing.
That’s why an Odd Future or an ASAP Rocky is gonna get the kind of attention they’re receiving.
They standout in a sea of copycats & wannabe’s…and even then, their shit is derivative of other acts, but they are managing to put their own spin on it and that’s why they’re winning.

Pac would flop in this era too, because they’d say he’s copying Jeezy, Ross, and every other rapper…because guess what…them niccas got their whole style from Pac!
You can’t say “Biggie wouldn’t thrive in this era” because him and Pac created modern rap.
I’m not saying he created them rhymsayer ass niccas in Minnesota – them niccas is in another lane and got their style from De La, Tribe, etc.
But every mainstream nicca you could possibly point to got his whole existence from Big, Pac, or both of them – no questions asked.
So spare the philosophical bullshit niccas.
