See….That’s the cold hard reality of this rap shit, bet that nigga Ray Cash needed that 401K plan and them medical benefits….cuz them ringtones aint poppin no mo’…..Niggaz got families, and once they realize there chance at being the next 50 or Jay is gone….it’s time to be a man and still support your family no matter what ridicule you may receive….If you think about it, there’s plenty actors in Hollywood who take regular jobs once the limelight faded and the agent stops calling….shit these NFL and NBA players going broke within 6 months of retiring…..Entertainment industry is full of high-risk income that unfortunately doesn’t last if your just the talent and not behind the scenes…

There’s a BIG difference between signing a million dollar deal and having a million dollars in your bank account…..Take for instance ASAP Rocky, niggaz was butt hurt over his 3mil deal like the record company just said…sign right here and here’s your sack of money, now bring us that hit…Nah, that money you reading about goes to marketing/promotion budgets, servicing radio programming directors, tour buses, producers, studio time, video shoots, photo shoots…..It really DOES cost to be the BOSS…at the end an artist is probably left w/ 250,000 to play w/ which is good money, but if you got niggaz in the hood you looking out for and greedy baby moms that shit can evaporate pretty quick…Ray Cash probably NEVER ever seen a mil in his life…No Shots, but he probably had a mil spent on promoting his last major label project….A Professor at an A&R class I took at UCLA told me it takes at least a million dollars to BREAK a new artist regardless of music genre…..Think about that…..

No doubt….You gotta look at a record deal like taking out student loans for college….Yeah, all that money sounds good on paper, but the student loans go directly to your tuition first before being dispersed to your bank account….Same goes for an advance from a record label, money has to be set aside to pay your manager, your lawyer, and so on and so forth before you get to make it rain at the strip club….Like I said, I’ve met sum cool individuals in my time that looked out and put me up on game….Ol’ boy who raps first on that “Teach Me How To Dougie” was a DJ first, he deejayed at my nieces B-Day party a year and a half before that song dropped, real humble kid, his Pops would drive him to the parties he had to DJ at and help him unload his equipment….A Nigga w/ prior work experience has nothing to worry bout when the spotlight stops shining….But…..That Memphis Bleek ass nigga, who’s very first paycheck is from music will most likely turn to selling drugs to finance their music careers when it’s all said and done….Rapping & Trapping is all them niggaz know….they missed out on that phase in everyone’s life where you learn how to fill out a job application….Royalty checks are annual too, they don’t come in the mail on a weekly or bi-weekly basis….The music biz is a serious hustle, if thats what you choose to pursue.

It also seems like if you love the culture or are a 90′s rapper, it would be easier to ink a deal with a koch-type label. Fuck a manager, stylist, or whatever them major label cats have, I’d do all that myself to save me the cash, I’d just pay the lawyer, we all know we need that.
If you have a cult-following or core fans, it sounds like an emcee can really cake off the indy deal. Shout outs to dipset, I remember dukedagod and Jimmy were on Koch, Cam on asylum, while Juelz’ albums were collecting dust in Camel’s basement.

I can dig where you coming from, but you need a manager and a good ass entertainment lawyer IF you wanna negotiate that big money deal….When I was 16 me and my lil’ rap crew cut class and hopped the train to midtown manhattan where Universal Records was at…..We spit for any one that came out the door on sum show n’ prove shit….then we walked in, asked security what floor Universal Records was on…went up to the receptionist and told her we the NEXT BIG THING in NY…..She blank stared all of us……and said “Where’s your manager at?” That manager will get you access to important meeting and deals…..Record Companies don’t respect the artist’s perspective on things so there has to be a middle man to relay messages thru……Niggaz can establish a strong fan base thru social media on their own…..But….if you thinking WORLD DOMINATION….you need that machine behind you and you need a manager….You still can cut corners look at Cashmoney they pay they producers upfront but never give them any back end money which comes from mp3 d/l’s or record sales…..Niggaz try to take them to court, but the producer is already broke and in need of financial assistance so he/she will settle out of court for whatever scraps they can get…..KNOW THE BUISNESS and then hustle the fuck out that bitch…..It’s the American Way!

ISPs are about to start policing your downloads on behalf of monolithic organizations like the RIAA and MPAA. Are you ready for the internet nanny state?
Last year, Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon, and Time Warner Cable agreed to take steps to combat piracy on their networks. Translation: the ISPs said they would monitor your internet traffic and make your life hell if they suspect you’re up to illegal file sharing.
Speaking at the Association of American Publishers’ annual meeting, RIAA CEO Cary Sherman says that the ISPs are all on track to kick off the “anti-piracy initiative” by July 12th. What exactly that means depends varies from ISP to ISP. CNET reports:
The program, commonly referred to as “graduated response,” requires that ISPs send out one or two educational notices to those customers who are accused of downloading copyrighted content illegally. If the customer doesn’t stop, the ISP is then asked to send out “confirmation notices” asking that they confirm that they have received notice.
They will also be informed of the risks they incur if they don’t stop pirating material. The ISP then can ratchet up the pressure. The ISPs can choose from a list of penalties or what the RIAA calls “mitigation measures” that include throttling down the customer’s connection speed to suspending Web access until the subscriber agrees to stop pirating. The ISPs can waive the mitigation measure if they choose.

Spot on observation…..#NOSHOTS at Eskay or these other top tier blogs, but they tend to focus their attention on artist w/ industry co-signs or allegiances which is cool….I mean, niggaz got a brand to watch out for, but rarely do you ever see any artist just get posted on a RR, 2DBZ, or NR w/ out sum sort of financial sponsorship behind them…the c-lists blogs will give a nigga a shot, but if you aint increasing that web traffic or them Alexia hits…niggaz is dead in the water after a couple posts…..Shit, go back a year to this day on Nah and check out sum of the artist that were posted….lotta them niggaz aint make it to 2012….There were your mainstream and underground rappers….Now, there’s Mainstream, Underground/Indie…..and Blog/Tumblr rappers all vying for that top spot….Shit is a clusterfuck….The new thing for indie artist is to seek outside investors who are interested in the music business…..Look at the deal the Cool Kids did w/ MountainDew or 7up….they provided them w/ a platform to make their brand bigger and still maintain that indie identity…..Just gotta be smart and don’t let too many people take advantage of you….There’s a lot of naive people making gullible ass mistakes becuz they get starstruck…..Realistically a nigga w/ 10 years at a good ass company has more assets and steady income coming in than sum of your favorite rappers….I’ve met artist that were hot and couldn’t afford to cop a dime sac…..

Nah, I’m not saying Eskay and them and put a lot of niggaz on…..Sheeeeit….that whole XXL Freshman cover w/ Mickey Facts, Cudi, and Wale was ALL artist that Nah co-signed FIRST…..but….at the same time by doing so it also broadened Nah’s brand to larger audiences who might not have been as aware of the hiphop blog scene…..Magazines accept payola in the form of advertisement….Remember them 2 page No Limit ads with 2 years worth of albums being released by future ex-cons….Master P greased they palm (II) w/ sum bread first….so…..those reviews won’t be as mean…..and that shit worked, same w/ Diddy and Dame….Them niggaz stayed w/ Bad Boy ads or Roc-a-fella after parties being promoted by Flex and Hot 97…..That’s not friendship….That’s BUSINESS….you can’t just drop a peer bag off and expect the DJ to spin ya shit…..NO BUENO….Nigga Fif flew all the nation’s programming directors and DJ’s down to Hawaii to preview The Massacre at his expense….He provided niggaz w/ FREE rooms, weed/drugs, and ample bitches to keep their minds occupied….Jay said it himself, he always paid everybody no matter if they did sum thing for free, becuz he knew money makes the world go ’round….Same thing w/ Odd Future….They got the cover of Billboard and aint sell shit….Niggaz manager is the head of marketing and promotion at Interscope…so what you expect? He gonna make sure their tooken care of regardless if the record sales don’t match the hype…..The music biz is all about perception….if I can make you believe I’m doing better than YOU….then I WON….Niggaz is paying for posts, for youtube hits, for record spins, for everything….It’s the American Way…If you wanna get in the music biz, get ya money right first, becuz aint NOBODY gonna do shit for you for FREE!

Illmatic vs. It was written… The classic argument
As a youngin learning the in’s and out’s of hip hop, I bought illmatic and fell in love with it. Its a flawless album, the 9 songs were just about perfect.
But as I get older, I’m starting to lean towards It was written, granted it’s not a flawless album like illmatic. But It was written is like the greatest display of rapping I’ve ever heard. The nonchalant sound of Nas’ flows, it sounds like he’s not even trying while being so technical with it. Dude was spitting crazy multies without it even sounding forced.. Plus his bars got them quotables. Idk what else I could want.

same with master p, no limit had heat….
even cash money and now ymcmb
….i’m talking about WACK NIGGAS, and magazines that your trust “he’s the next leader of this generation blah blah blah” and niggas give that shit a listen and want to beat up the nigga that wrote it like “why your lying son?” or these niggas dick sucking their way into venues with coked up white hoes for decision makers and when you watch the show footage NO ONE has their hands up like “who is this nigga? how does he expect us to sign along? we don’t know who he is”
it’s cool to give a nigga a push (nhjic) when he DESERVES it, but when the nigga clearly doesn’t deserve it, it’s an insult to hip-hop’s supporters intelligence and support.

Same here….I think Illmatic is an M.C.’s bible, like that’s a necessity if you trying to rap. It Was Written is mad underrated, tho…it blew Nas the fuck up….like the nigga went from dropping an lp that took a year to go gold to releasing an album that went 2x Platininm….Nas got a catalog ANY M.C. minus Jay would kill for…..Only online do I see niggaz try to use that man’s personal life as a means to discredit his HipHop contributions….Nas got hits for days, dawg…..Nas aint Fab or Jada, who I both respect, Nas n’ Jay icons, dawg….LL Cool J status, niggaz look petty talking bout them niggaz while they sit up in Mt. Olympus…I dig Stillmatic too tho! This nigga would have bootleg albums….Word to “Death Of Escobar” w/ all original joints that never made the album….I Am and Nastradamus were totally different sounding albums on the street…But I aint mad at them, even d/l’ed that Distant Relatives joint which was surprisingly good…..Nas has a great career that ANY nigga in the game would love to have.

This shit is a banger. Nas’ difficulty curve when it comes to making singles to promo his albums is tougher than any other rapper’s ever. He’s gotta pop [ll] for radio, but not so much that the stans revolt (You Owe Me). Striking that balance is tough & he’s almost NEVER on club playlists. His peers get do make the poppiest bangers & new niggas don’t even have a choice, so we don’t judge them at all in 2012. No pop/radio/club hit = no career. Yet this nigga preserveres.

I forgot where this is going…Actually its dope that danny brown got on the freshmen cover this year.
I over stand what your saying. A lot of people are now choosing what music they want to listen too, their finding it themselves not having a magazine/radio program or television channel do it for them.
Same token tho, there are plenty of people who are unaware of nahright and blogs like it. There are age and still consume music from media publications.
Also even internet savvy people still depend on media publications. For other genres it easier to read a magazine blurp on such and such rock band than surfing threw youtube to find one. Without fader magazine a lot of hip-hop cats wouldn’t know about Little dragon or bon iver.

You won’t go gold or platinum with just your core fan
You NEED the average rap fan
And if he doesn’t know you ? Good Luck.

——————–
Most people who are reading the Source and XXL do know about nahright, it’s almost impossible not to if you’re keeping that up to date with the genre
Most people do not get their music from TV or magazines
They get it online from their friends posts on facebook
Mark Zuckerberg won.

all i’m saying is poorly ran blogs and magazines who are out of touch with social media and decided to get a blog in the last 2 years be pushing certain niggas ain’t don’t know what it really is out here,
i’m mean these weak ass social media strategist don’t know one black nigga from the next. all they know is they just got paid 10K to hit the streets and find that new nigga that white people might like cause he looks good in the “hip-hop section”…they don’t even LISTEN to hip-hop, i fucked a few bitches that told me so…nothing but “alex on fire” type niggas in the ipod
so if you got coked up whores and dusty niggas giving you the impression that they gonna beat your ass if you don’t put on for their man’s …if your a scary white nigga, or a bottom feeder with no integrity anda fetish for white girls you’re motivated to write and promote GARBAGE SHIT for GARBAGE NIGGAS
…in the end you do nothing but destroy creditbility for the brand and their online presence
it’s niggas in EVERY CITY across the u.s.a. doing this, paying off the underlings and weak links to hype up a bum nigga and his underlings…
youtube was purchased by google because of their integrity and social media reliance upon the statistical data…
you can’t bribe a 200 billion dollar company with chitilan circuit tatics
that’s all i’m saying.

Homeless people turned into walking Wi-Fi hotspots in ‘charitable experiment’
AUSTIN, Texas – Homeless people are being turned into walking Wi-Fi aerials as part of a “charitable experiment” by a New York ad agency.
Bartle, Bogle and Hegarty (BBH) handed out free Novatel Wireless MiFi gadgets to the peddlers — along with T-shirts bearing their names and the words “I’m a 4G hotspot” — for its Homeless Hotspots project at the South by Southwest (SXSW) arts and tech festival in Austin, Texas.
The company will promote the concept among homeless shelters in New York City and elsewhere if the response is good, BBH chief Saneel Radia told The New York Post.
“These are homeless individuals. They’re carrying MiFi devices. Introduce yourself, then log on to their 4G network via your phone or tablet for a quick, high-quality connection,” the company said on its website.
“This year in Austin, as you wander between locations murmuring to your coworker about how your connection sucks … you’ll notice strategically positioned individuals wearing ‘Homeless Hotspot’ T-shirts.”

Day after day,
Alone on a hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he’s just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning ’round.
