Right up until the time P came home I would’ve agreed with this statement. But then he dropped “Dogshit” and the “Black Cocaine” EP, both resorting my faith in the Mobb. But yeah, I’d been disappointed with their musical output since Infamy, which wasn’t a completely bad album, but it was a letdown follow up to Murder Muzik and marked the beginning of the end (no pun intended) of the duo’s legendary run.

It Was Written is way more cinematic and is much more varied in tone, concept & production.
But Illmatic is such a definitive statement on 90′s NYC. That album just creates a whole dark, jazzy, urban vibe in it’s production & Nas was such a detailed narrator, nihilistic in his outlook on the world and the future that awaits him.
It’s short, concise, no filler & most importantly, no “Nas Is Coming” (nhjic).

Hilarious as in wild corny.
And Nas can spit jewels over trash beats. And he has.
The song didn’t live up to the hype of a Nas/Dr. Dre collaboration and the beat was some bullshit Dre made during that period when he was making a lot of bullshit beats (anyone remember “Zoom” with LL?).

I liked “East Coast Killer/West Coast Killer” better, even though there coulda been a better line up of MC’s on that thing.
It’s friggin’ Dr. Dre we’re talking about and he gets KRS, RBX & B-Real alongside Nas. Never understood why he didn’t choose some more relevant artists.
And co-sign all stannery involving Nas’ lyrics on “Nas Is Coming”.
Nas can destroy any beat but it’s always better when it’s a good one.

It’s like people were so blwn away (pause) by the intro that they didnt listen to the rest of the album.

That’s that acoustic canal kneatus flow right there. That cerebral speak easy. That lyrical content that Willie Lynche and Jim Crow wanted to keep us segregated from music. That “music that speaks to your soul, cause it’s so potent”(Black Ice) flow. The music that makes your struggles so beautiful in its heartbreak and success rap. That shit that “We missed a lot of church so this music is our confessional” came from. Why it was formed. Real, pure, unadulterated, raw, honest, candid, and soul uplifting messages from the most high audio herione.
Y’all don’t hear me though.

For the record, Fabolous cant go anywhere in NY without his bodyguards because some people who are “of the street” think one of Fabs mans killed/set up G Baby (RIP) (Bleeks right hand). I heard he got banned from Queens?

Was just thinking this to myself this morning.
Maybe when everyone forgets about him, he’ll drop the classic to be that is Act II.
He’s like the Invisible Boy in Mystery Man.

Jay Elec can only be a legend when no one is really paying attention.
