It has a little more realism than most Mafia raps imo.
Most of the classic mafia raps have little mention of law enforcement.
But The Firm are always trying to evade capture. Even the Firm Biz video has them getting chased by police just to reinforce that. You’re waiting to hear if they get caught or even killed. Thats the real plot, (check the track titles) how long can they stunt until they get caught. I think that went over peoples heads. The media wanted a moody album like Reasonable Doubt or Cuban Linx, but the Firm album is extra flashy with a serious undertone.
“smoothness mixed with malice ” – AZ
Whenever one of them says something vile or deviant, they have to try out do each other. That’s why I think the chemistry was on point on that album. And the features do great cameos in this movie.

The media wanted a moody album like Reasonable Doubt or Cuban Linx, but the Firm album is extra flashy with a serious undertone
===============================================
All I wanted was a through line I could follow. The whole Firm concept was loose at best. And then they shoehorned joints like “Firm All-Stars” & “Hardcore” on there so they’d have some club worthy singles.
The album itself never seems sure of what it wants to be. Hardcore Mafia Raps or a collection of club bangers?
It fails because by trying to be everything, it ends up being mediocre.
Fuck is Cannibis doing on here besides the fact he was hot at the time?

The film is known for its rich, eclectic dialogue, ironic mix of humor and violence, nonlinear storyline, and host of cinematic allusions and pop culture references.
Directed in a highly stylized manner, Pulp Fiction joins the intersecting storylines of Los Angeles mobsters, fringe players, small-time criminals, and a mysterious briefcase. Considerable screen time is devoted to conversations and monologues that reveal the characters’ senses of humor and perspectives on life.
=============================
Could easily say the same for The Firm album no?
Replace the mysterious briefcase with whether they’ll get caught or not.
And Los Angeles with the Tri State area.

The Firm album was almost a parody of all the mafioso rap of the day.
^See, this is kind of how I view DTR though.
^^^^^
It’s Mafia rap on steroids but the fact it’s so over the top in it’s excess (especially considering we all know who Rick Ross is) makes it that much more entertaining.

He’s a small time player in this movie.
People keep trying to kill him for all the sheisty shit he’s been involved in, so he wants out. Willing to abandon his woman to escape.
Nature also starts questioning the loyalty of The Firm.
Story within a story.

The sequencing on The Firm <<<<<<
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:05 pm
The Firm are always trying to evade capture.
^Never looked at it that way. True though.
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:06 pm
I’d love to hear The Firm album…as written by HW.
Cause all that shit you’re writing woulda made for a way better album then what we wound up with.

But this is just what I see when I hear the album.
I hear a well scripted mob flick.

Nah, your imagination is just filling the holes in that LP’s weak ass narrative.
Explain “Untouchable”. Cause I never understood the reasoning behind giving Nas’ weed carrier an entire track.

Dude’s a corn for all the shit he’s doing. I used to respect Com, but he’s acting like a broad, dissing the dude on wax but saying you like his music, etc. in interviews.
Shit’s mad contradictory…but that’s who Common is.

LMAO this lil nicca Stalley rappin bout money and jewels on that new Rozay mixtape.
Shit sounds forced as fuck.
It’s like them emo niccas Slug and Ant rappin bout bitches and jewels…shit’s hilarious.
I think Rozay had a sit-down with the lil nicca like “You with MMG now. You wanna get dropped and shat on like Pill? No? K. I need you to stop rapping about your little ass town in Ohio or whatever that nobody heard of and start to rap about the following topics:
1 – Bitches
2 – Sluts
3 – Weed
4 – Money
5 – Muellery
6 – Being ignorant
K? Thanks Stalley.”
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:28 pm
We knew Stalley was gonna write about shit like that at some point.
And it doesn’t sound as forced as you make it seem.

@ Amp
Untouchable is one of my favorite tracks on the album, wish it was longer.
If you peep the lyrics, you’ll see that the track is a fantasy of Wizard’s. That’s why everything in his verse is extra exaggerated.
He has visions of being in meetings with The Firm, which is why Nas has that intro. In reality, he’s still in QB.
“images of mad loot and beating sentences”
“how does it feel to count a mil?”
It’s a dream of his. He thinks he’s Untouchable.

Com been nice since Slick Rick first chain. Don’t fucking front. No Canadian really want it with a real nicca who got joints with everyone and been had a brand for a decade and a half. Fuck outta here. Drizzy is gassed the fuck up and needs to end this senseless fuckotry because if you thought Prodigy on the Summer Jam screen with ballet shoes merked his career then just wait…Drizzy got so many embarrassing ass pics it’s not even fair…Com could do a slideshow of this show-tunes ass Degrassi nicca. I love Drake’s music but the nicca is mad vulnerable. He put Nike gloves on and waved a gun and now he think he hard. Nicca you softer than a Oreo Cakester, STFU and go make a song with Weeknd, you don’t want it with Com for real.

That’s like a rapper coming from Greenwich, Connecticut, son. Drizzy got videos on youtube as a teenager lashing out at his moms for getting him a lox bagel instead of plain cream cheese. Nation sent em to me, the shits it out there. So if Drizzy really want to go to battle he better start scrubbing the internet of all this embarassing ass shit or Com finna upload Drake’s Bar Mitzvah video and merk the whole Cash Money, have Baby talmbout “I mean we have a business deal with Drizzy but you know he was never part of Cash Money…”

But that’d be tantamount to calling Rick Ross a C.O..
This is common knowledge. You don’t get stripes for calling attention to the obvious.
Caught an episode of Girlfriends with Common on it yesterday.
Dude was dressed like Homey The Clown, dead ass. Bright ass crocheted applejack hat to match too.
Common has just as many embarrassing looks/contradictory moments as Aubrey. He’s an ill rapper but I ain’t co-signing this “beef”

People no longer understand how to be entertained. For whatever reason spectators now question the methodology or rationality of fuckery instead of enjoying it.
How many comments on nah, or any hip-hop website, begged for a beef between to popular lyricist?
Now Common’s firing on Drake and niggas are not satisfied. The fuck do you care about a niggas’ ethos?
Consider the amount of money Common probably made being the “Nice” rapper in hip-hop and then understand beef is meant to be enjoyed not questioned…
