That sell-off between him and 50 was more than just who would sell more. it was which type of artist is more popular. No one, not even Jay at that point, was more popular than 50. And ye came through and changed the entire direction of hip hop.
All of a sudden rappers is skinny jeans wearing, with scarves, and NOT rapping about thugging, gun busting and hustling.
Thats not to say that rappers weren’t doing that before Ye, but in the same vein how Jay didn’t invent button ups, he just made it the thing to do, Ye did the same for the game.
