the problem is, is that you’d lose out on my money because you would miss out on a lot of wouldbe buyers that live in smaller venues.

endorsements, show money, merchandise etc are limited by record companies right? those are the ways these independent artists eat right? i mean fuck… so the advantage is bigger distrubution and more marketing… but again internet and specialized marketing campaigns can be used and probably do well. i mean shit… there is a guy called Moufy from MA. cat got ont he news cuz of his video being a little controversial. BAM sold out a show. then i know this other boston sports site which throws concerts picked him up….
distrubution eventually will be killed off.. except e-distribution and VERY limited physical releases (im talking more than 10 years down the line).
then cats will sell cds of the free or paid mp3s to people who dont use the internet… if there are any.
that last part is very speculative and not fully thought through, the rest isnt tho

I’ve read a lot about how much better it is to just self publish your writing on Amazon then it is to get a deal with a publisher, if it can happen with books music is only a matter of time.
Right now old media advertising helps, but for many it may seem like a better fit to just do it on your own, and make a decent living even if you don’t become a star.
