That’s the thing, though. They export because they have more than enough for their populace, and in the event of a crisis they wouldn’t suddenly lose the capability to produce those same products/resources. So they would end up waiting on foreign [i.e. U.S.] demand to pick up.
^No this bullshit. China has a huge population but the reason that their products are bought is because there cheap. Its cheap to Chinese because
1) China continues to devalue its currency
2) The cost of Chinese workers are a fifth of Americans
Yeah there is a large pool of workers, but India has the same population but doesn’t sell nearly enough goods as China because of what China does.
———————————————————–
No dude.
It’s true that China manipulating it’s currency is a big part of demand for their products, but I wasn’t just talking about China in particular when I said that about export based economies.
That’s great that you read up on that stuff but how exactly does your point relate to what I said? Export-based economies DO have to wait for demand to pick up before their economies can get back into gear.
How they got to be export based economies, and whether currency manipulation has to do with it is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that they produce an excess of something of which they need to export.

China’s wages will rise eventually, and they will lose their competitive edge.
Then they will move to a service-oriented economy and Africa will be the world’s manufacturing hub.
——————————————–
I don’t disagree with this, I just think that it will take a lot longer than most people assume. Which is why the general worry over China’s economy eclipsing the U.S.’s is a bit much IMO.
It will only be an issue when they aren’t predominantly export based, which will be a while.

But for them to really rise, they will have to go through the virtually untapped, huge supply of labor from people rural areas that are willing to work cheaply in factories rather than farm like their parents did.
As that supply dwindles, demand will be greater than supply for laborers, and wages will rise.
Won’t be overnight – maybe a generation.

Yeah in the 80s. Now in 2011, domestic producers separate global demand and local. With advances to tools and production, manufactures can produce efficiently even if a portion of their profits come from exports.

They need exports because they produce more of something than their populace currently needs and foreign demand picks up for it.

^In BROAD MACRO THEORY THIS IS LOGICAL.
But lets tie it to China. China allows its cheap workers to work for American owned companies to solely export goods to the US. Their Econ is not dependent upon our purchases nor are they export based.

50 would do better to follow in Em’s footsteps and play the “serious artist” card rather than some dance-music rap thing like other Interscope artists do well.
50′s flow and hooks are still overplayed and won’t sound great over trendy beats anyway. But I could see him making a decent rap album if he focused less on that and more on rapping about his life in a frank manner. He’s don’t this sometimes and it’s worked well. He’ll just have to pick more rock-ish sounding beats than he did on BISD.

@jderrida: The point is China IS an export based economy right now. Worrying about them having a larger economy than the U.S. is pointless unless they replace the U.S.’s ROLE in the economy at large. There’s no theory I’m applying–it’s a simple fact that China is currently an export-based economy. If the theory doesn’t explain the real world it don’t work.
The will shift and may eventually do that, but it will take a LONG time and that’s relevant to my original point that you still failed to get– we are worrying too much over something that will only happen [if at all] to the FAR future.
But seriously, I quit. No shots. This is tiresome and I have to leave 3:30 anyway
