Drake really lucked up finding 40 tho. That kizza is an engineer too right? So no mixing/mastering/recording fees?

@Black- Stalley produces his own music
@MCB- Mixtapes can make money depending on how much is put into the promotion, but now its difficult. People want so much for free that when its time to actually purchase something, they become jaded.

Nah, they still paying all those fees. A recording engineer =/= a mix engineer, and neither can replace a mastering studio.
Plus, they prolli don’t own a studio– I know YM don’t; they record primarily in ATL.

Yea, in a sense. free music has become part of the music landscape– you can’t avoid doing it or your fanbase could evaporate, but give out TOO MUCH and you end up burning yourself out.
The EP allows you to stay sharp, drop music, and keep your fanbase happy, and sell it if you choose for a reduced rate.

True, i remember on their MTV special they had to bring in somebody to master the records.
This shit all just sounds like you’re basically starting a business and you will need investors/funding to get the shit popping. the days of the 5 song demo been dead.
*wonders how BIG would’ve fared in today’s climate*
