Royce Da 5’9 on the Birth of Slaughterhouse

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Complex hooked up with Royce for another one of their “Essentials” pieces and he spoke about the creation of the original “Slaughterhouse” record and the cold war between him and Joe Budden that preceded it.

“[At the time] there was something in the air, where [me and Joe Budden] were taking shots at each other. So it was kind of like a point where we came to like, ‘Okay, either we’re going to beef or we’re going to get together so we can do something.’ Like every day things were getting said in interviews and we were like, ‘What are we going to do here?’

“One day I get a call, saying, ‘Joey wants you to get on the phone.’ I was like, ‘Nah.’ But my manager Kino was like, ‘I think you should do it. Y’all would be better together than you would be beefing with each other.’ But I was like, ‘Man, I just don’t like the nigga.’ Kino talked me into it, saying it would be good for the Internet and about putting Crooked, Joell, and Nino Blessed on there. I was like, ‘Okay, if he’s gonna put them on there then fuck it, I’m going to do it.’

“This was around the time that my daughter was being born. In fact, I was in the hospital when I was talking to Kino. I left the hospital real quick and did the song because of course his deadline was that day. That’s how every MC does me, they hit me like, ‘Yo, I need a verse but I need it yesterday.’ I had to shoot to the studio, lay a verse down, and send it. He put it out and it kind of exploded on the Internet.

This concept made me chuckle.

“I’m writing a few thoughts to my dude charles”

For the many people who miss the creative wit of Charles Hamilton, Mickey pens a letter in audio form about the back story of his relationship with Charles. Factz hopes this letter will revive the young upstart on his upcoming return.

Longtime Suspect Admits to Tupac Shooting at Quad Studios

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Uh oh, shit just got deep. Dexter Isaac, a longtime suspect in the 1994 shooting and robbery of Tupac at Quad Studios, has confessed to the crime. Not only that, but he says Jimmy Henchmen paid him $2500 to do the robbery, and he says he still has the chain he took from Tupac as proof. Isaacs, who is currently serving a life sentence for unrelated crimes, admitted to the shooting in a statement released today in response to a previous statement made by Henchmen following his recent indictment on drug charges.  The most interesting thing about Isaac’s statement though is that he promises to bring closure to both ‘Pac and Biggie’s mothers “at a different time”. Then he chastises Henchmen and Puff for trying to “come off all innocent-like” and asks Henchmen whether or not he’s going to flip on Puff when the Fed’s finally catch up to him. Isaac, who feels that Henchmen threw him under the bus after he sat in prison and kept his mouth shut for 13 years, clearly has some damning information and seems like he’s ready to share everything. This one dude may have just blown two of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in history wide open.
