For almost three years, Chuck and Mikey of The Cool Kids have been hard at work on their upcoming album When Fish Ride Bicycles (via Green Label Sound). While they were down in Miami recording at South Beach Studios, The Cool Kids had a chance to sit down and discuss the album and the extensive relationship with Green Label Sound which dates back to the release of their very first single Delivery Man back in 2008. This is the second portion of the interview video series so be sure to catch the first segment right here as well. When Fish Ride Bicycles is available exclusively on iTunes on July 12, 2011.

Someone got their hands on the a cappella version of “Mama’s Boy” from the MBDTF sessions (since there was more than one beat for the song) and threw it over one of their own beats – which, by the way, is the best way to add insult to injury when leaking someone else’s work. Ye hasn’t acknowledged leaks since he gave up on Twitter, but being the perfectionist that he is, it’s understandable that he would put out a statement like this:

The version of the Kanye West recording “Mama’s Boy” that arrived on blog sites earlier this week is entirely bogus and unsanctioned, and violates the artist’s creative intentions. As is often the unfortunate case, an unknown party or parties got a hold of Kanye West’s vocal track and added their own soundbed to it, effectively and falsely releasing it as a Kanye West track from the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sessions. The result in no way resembles the final song Kanye West intended his fans to hear, and he is deeply disappointed that one of the most personal, meaningful and special songs he has ever written would reach people in this way. Needless to say, measures are being taken to identify and prosecute the persons responsible for leaking this material.

I definitely noticed the song was really offbeat at certain points but figured it was what happens when the verse is laid before the beat is picked. Plus there was some confusion over who had done the beat in the first place.
