2Pac – NY ’87 (Now That’s Dissin) & Watch Yo Mouth (CDQ)
So, here are two gems. “Watch Yo Mouth”, a scathing diss track in which Pac checks Nas, Dr. Dre, Wendy Williams, De La Soul, Puff and Biggie has been floating around for a while, but in less than stellar quality. Here’s the full track in what appears to be CDQ (I converted them to mp3 from the wav files I found them in).
Download: Tupac – Watch Yo Mouth
Also, we have the elusive “NY ’87 (Now That’s Dissin)”, a track I remember reading about in some dark coner of the internet many years ago in the days before blogs. As I understand it, this was originally a Dogg Pound track featuring ‘Pac, DJ Quik and Deadly Threat, but it was never released for whatever reason. Targets on this include: Mobb Deep, Biggie, Nas, and really the entire city of New York.
Download: Tha Dogg Pound ft. 2Pac, DJ Quik& Deadly Threat – NY ’87

Just watched that Big Daddy Kane Unsung doc they showed on TVOne the other day. Nothing I didn’t already know, but it’s gotta hurt a bit that Kane was the technical influence/equal of Jay-Z and Biggie and he’ll never get the GOAT acclaim that those two get.
His timing was off by about 4 years. By the time niggas started wearing suits again gangsta rap had fucked Kane’s career up.

Possibly get his future Fortune 500 CEO on without getting an MBA
^^^
In retrospect, I’m thinking maybe I should have gone for a JD/MBA or an MBA instead of a JD.
There’s a lot of shit to do within law though – along with opportunities to leverage that shit into other industries. I suppose networking and a lil’ bit of luck won’t hurt. But the actual work is very meh.

Yea the cynicism and the boring work you’ve been talking about is on point with what I’ve been hearing from other sources
You’re in corporate law ?
Like what do you do on a daily basis may I ask ?
Or if you don’t want to answer that with Land in the room

At the moment I’m working on a contract for a high stakes litigation firm. Most of the shit I do is glorified document review. The only ‘lucky’ thing is that I basically have a 9-5 schedule. Colleagues that have salaried positions at larger firms essentially do the same shit for better pay – at least for the first year or so. If they’re lucky, they get to do some light writing and accompany senior attorneys to negotiations and court. They all seem to hate the work – which they have to do for up to 80 hours a week.

^^You could do all sorts of shit. You have to get certain accreditation to become a practising lawyer working for a firm, otherwise you remain in0-house Counsel, advising the executive/the board on areas (risk, finance, strategy) where there may be some potential issues.
I work lawyers all the time. On the whole they’re a bunch of smarmy cunts.

The number 88 is gaining popularity, too, a reference to the outlawed phrase “Heil Hitler.” With “H” being the eighth letter of the alphabet, to Nazis, “88″ means “Heil Hitler.”

Deen you’re probably still getting your Articles are you? Essentially if you work in a Law firm you have to kiss a lot of ass to make Partner. And everyone else is trying to fuck over their colleagues to get the maximum amount of billable hours so they can do this. Lawyers get paid good coin when you’ve been in law for a few years but they’re all wankers. Deen will fit in well.

Can’t deny that. High cuntiness levels in this field.
@CP – I’d have more specific details to add, but I’ve never done the big firm thing (just graduated in 2010 and I’m still searching for a prime job while doing this contract shit and working at Lowes on the side).

ROFL.
You’re the worst.
I’m qualified in Texas. Looking for a decent firm with decent work for me to latch on to on a permanent basis.
No interest in the partner track right now. Just want the experience so I can head in house or go do some other shit in about 5 years.

LMAO at all a y’all talkin’ bout “Pac can’t rap”…. fucking halarious for real.
I love both Pac and Big but at the end of the day neither of them was THE illest MC…. there was better then and there’s better now. Pac was a brilliant songwriter and was able to emote like no other rapper at the time, sure technically he may not be the “best” MC but as far as rapping goes that dude could flat out fucking spit and to this day his legacy is MONSTROUS all around the world because people could relate to Pac, he spoke to them and in many peoples eyes he spoke for them. Big had the flow and the storytelling and the style, he could make the simplest shit sound ill as fuck, and he often did. I don’t get why everyone paints Big as this super duper ill techincal MC, because over the course of 2 albums he just wasn’t. Dude could spit, flow, make great songs, concepts out the ass and all that but other than “Notorious Thugs” he never really switched his style up or pushed himself technically, the way say a Nas or a Jay-Z does. I think given more time Big would have showed us much more but unfortunately he didn’t get the chance.
Y’all prolly won’t even read this but if you do please don’t take this as downing either Pac or Big…. both are legends with legacy’s that will be hard to touch for decades to come. In my honest opinion Pac has the greater legacy, he’s on some Bob Marley/Elvis Presley/Kurt Cobain shit where I come from and everywhere around the world that I’ve been, but Big would be the better MC overall.
But shit, fuck picking one over the other, luckily we don’t have to. Just put them joints in the deck and let the music speak for itself.
Peace.

Literally, this guy was an absolutely terrible rapper. Weak lyrics and ZERO styles on the mic. Controversy is his crutch. Lest we forget this guy was an actor first, then a rapper. That’s not a coincidence.

^ Wendy Williams was more of a man than every rapper Pac dissed, because she was willing to say his name while he was alive. The rest of those guys were clowns, every last one of them, for refusing to respond while dude was still breathing. And I laughed out loud hard as hell when Pac said “Y’all went three feet and stopped rising”. Pure hilarity.
June 30th, 2011 at 12:20 pm
de la isn’t on the clowning list because his dis to de la didn’t come out till after he died.
i don’t know though, pac was dissing people live in concert all the time. i saw him in new orleans and he went in on rappers for about ten minutes straight during an intermission. only names i remember are LL Cool J (I guess because of “I Shot Ya”). I think he said something about Jermaine Dupri too.
Did anyone other than King Sun respond to Pac while he was breathing?

Nas pushes himself technically? Other than his failed attempt at double-time rap on Big Things and him biting Del’s “change my voice to sound like a different rapper” technique on Sekou’s Story?
I’d say Jay and Nas don’t challenge themselves that much. Jay dipped back into his 88 bag of tricks for Originators 98 (or whatever the Vol 2 jaz-O song was called) but generally those guys stay in their pre-determined lanes. Ain’t no “Bring It On” Pharaohe Monch-style moments in either of their discographies IMO.

Perhaps…but at the time, no one even knew who Nas or Jay-Z was…Pac was on tv every day with videos and news, Jay and Nas didn’t even hit platinum…Pac wasn’t necessarily trying to out-rap them, he was trying to end their careers
